Saw Walsh is listed at the top of the depth chart for RG this week. I can't help but scratch my head on this. It's one thing when fans are calling to see Canzeri, Beathard, or Law, when people are thinking that KF isn't playing the best players but have no evidence to support that the guys they want are actually better than the guys who are playing. Those kinds of demands are pretty easy to dismiss.

But Walsh and Donnal have rotated a lot this year, and the line always looks better with Donnal in the game. There is tangible, visible proof that Donnal is better for the line as a whole. So why the hell isn't he firmly entrenched as the starter? He played very well last year before he got hurt, and he's been very good this year when he's in there. Walsh has been inconsistent, at best. I just don't understand this at all.

The ONLY thing I can think of (and granted, this is a big stretch), but KF might not really like to have super tall guys in at guard. That's all I got....

I suspect that KF and Brian Ferentz spend hours poring over films of the o-line performances in games and practices. They presumably know what they are looking at in offensive line play after decades of doing it. I just have to assume that Walsh is playing better than you are seeing. Me? I do not break down the coaches film from games for hours, so I will go with the coaches on these decisions. I find it hard to really assess them in the heat of the game...too much going on, with little knowledge of who is supposed to block who.

There doesn't seem to be any evidence of this. They both seem to be subpar, but I'll take Kirk and Brian's opinions on this matter.

I haven't watched and compared the play of these 2 all year but I thought Donnal struggled Saturday or at least had 2 big plays that hurt.

The first was the false start penalty on his first play in the game which forced us into an obvious passing situation on a short field. Wiscy dropped 8 in coverage and led to us settling for a FG.

The 4th down that we did go for it Donnal pulled and didn't get a block to anybody and Weisman was hit behind the line.
