Connor McCaffery - Class of 2017 Vid

Let's not forget it's not just coaches/sons that get dogged. IIRC, Justin Combs, son of Sean 'Diddy' Combes, is on scholarship at UCLA. When he was first offered and committed, there was some outcry from the UCLA fan base that his dad could afford to pay his way through 4 years and that he shouldn't take up a scholarship.

If the kid can play, fits into the system, and is receiving other offers, then offer away!!

GO HAWKS!!!

Sam Dekker was the #13 ranked player in the nation according to Rivals after his senior year and #30 player in college BBall.

Again... I'm not tryign to dog on the kid and he's only a freshamn so a lot can change but you must see something different than I do in the video because I see a lot of passing.

Have you seen him play or have you read something to draw the comparison to a Sam Dekker type talent?
Did you watch the whole video? I'd say for a freshman, he looks pretty decent. Let's see what he looks like in a couple years.

I think what Iba is getting at is the kid looks pretty unathletic. Plenty of time for that to improve with maturity and strength work, as he is just a freshman. If he ends up 6'7" or taller (probably a 4 man) that lack of athleticism won't hurt him as much.

I spoke with Fran personally last year and he told me his kid was regarded as the best 8th grader in the state. Seeing as Iowa produces high D1 talent every year this works out well for Hawkeye bball. Then again, he also said all last year Oglesby is the best shooter he has ever seen, then the kid went out and made him look the fool by becoming the 2nd worst 3 pt shooter in the country statistically.

yeah, whats Fran know about bb and D1 talent anyway?

Only a freshman so plenty of time for him to continue to develop but I'm not seeing a Big 10 division 1 type athlete in the video but I'm not recruiting expert.

He is a freshman who has three years to develop his game and grow. He has a good feel for the game and is skilled, especially for a freshman.....

We shall see. I like the way he plays.....

Roy Williams was spotted in the stands at one of his games......

He has skills.
P.S. If anyone sees Roy Williams in an Iowa town, at an Iowa high school basketball game...let me know. I need to help him out.

Sorry dude but what did you expect when you come into a thread regarding a freaking HS freshman who happens to be the coaches son and start calling him unathletic? Coach McCaffery played college ball at Penn and his wife Margaret was an outstanding women's collegiate basketball player at Notre Dame. You honestly think they are going to have a kid who is "unathletic"? Plus a true freshman at 6'4 and counting is often still growing into his body. He won't be able to fully develop athleticism until he's done growing. I think you just see a white kid who isn't that fast and you immediately assume he's not athletic, but that's just my opinion. In any case, he's a true HS freshman for crying out loud. How seriously do you take life?

Well, first, he is good enough that they make him play with his left hand to even up the competition. And, secondly, and maybe more important, we need to make it clear to Fran that the kid got all of his athletic ability from his mother (I dare him to disagree publically with that statement). Seriously, he looks like a very good young basketball player. In fact, when I watch kids his age play the way he does, I am just blown away. How will he turn out? If I were a betting man, I would say with his genes and the upbringing he is getting, he will be a darn good college basketball player...just don't know a what level as yet. Knowing Fran's blunt approach to life, he could likely tell you.

There were over 200 of the top sophmores and frosh at this camp. Conner is a frosh, but was named to the top 25 all-star team...so that means he is probably pretty darn good already. His mom was an All-American,and his Dad was a top Div 1 player, and both are 6'4'' or bigger....is anyone ever shorter than their mom and dad? I expect him to be 6'7'' minimum, and be a top player...at Iowa.

This is my favorite part of this post. Is there some consensus ranking system for individual college players out there that I'm not aware of? Otherwise, I'm going to see a link that proves that Dekker is without a doubt the 30th best player, and not one spot higher or lower.

You have your opinoin.... I have mine. But I guess since mine doesn't agree with yours you're going to attempt to take a shot at me by claiming I'm Mr Life is Serious to try and discredit mine.

I stated multiple times that he is a freshman which leaves a lot of time for growth and development. However, based on that video... I don't see a player that is very quick and I don't see very good hops.

As you stated and I agree.... he has a lot going for him in terms of family, basketball knowledge and the tools to keep improving.

I'm not taking a shot at you. I simply drew the conclusion that since you feel seasoned enough at spotting talent to classify a true high school freshman as unathletic you must take things pretty darn seriously. He's Fran's son and he's got some game. Plus with his age/size I think he could end up being an intriguing prospect. Seems like most of us just think it's pretty darn cool to discuss his potential simply because of who he is. You on the other hand felt obliged to come in and call him unathletic. It was simply my opinion that you're taking things a little to seriously.

Maybe we could at least wait until the kid becomes a man before we start criticizing him? Is that too much to ask?

Sorry, but you keep saying "true high school freshman". I don't think we've gotten to the point of "redshirt" high school freshman, have we? :D Otherwise, I'm right there with you so carry on!
