Just To Be Clear

The cynical, sarcastic cabal which persists in dominating this board will continue to call for KF's head during bowl prep this year right? And when we're ranked next year, right?

Just want everyone firmly on the record.

What am I thinking? They'll just switch to their "we're winning" handles.

If this team wins 8 to 9 games then KF gets a great job from me. 6 to 7 means he probably only beat NW and Purdue, that should not be celebrated. Less than 6 and he should be stoned on the steps of the Old Capitol.

You seem to be getting way ahead of yourself

it's like reverse trolling!

seriously though, this team could/should/will be much better next year. we can talk bowl games then. but, yeah, let's just be jNW first, mmmmmmkay?

There will be no bowl this year, one more possible win is all we have and even that is no guarantee.

i thought you had a thread asking if people wanted on the bandwagon cuz the Hawks were going to win 9 games?

Nope. 8 wins including a bowl win:

I posted this in May:

We will be 7-5, 5-3 in the Big Ten.

Northern Illinois (L) 0-1, 0-0
Missouri State (W) 1-1, 0-0
@ Iowa State (L) 1-2, 0-0
Western Michigan (W) 2-2, 0-0
@ Minnesota (W) 3-2, 1-0
Michigan State (W) 4-2, 2-0
@ Ohio State (L) 4-3, 2-1
Northwestern (L) 4-4, 2-2
Wisconsin (W) 5-4, 3-2
@ Purdue (W) 6-4, 4-2
Michigan (W) 7-4, 5-2
@ Nebraska (L) 7-5, 5-3

We will defeat Arizona State in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl to finish 8-5.

A clear QB starter will cement himself during the first two Big Ten games. After the bye week and a couple hard fought lumps vs. Ohio State and Northwestern, we will emerge a rejuvenated program as November begins.

I got the Bowl game wrong - that tie in doesn't start until next year - but my prediction stands.

Since you're so confident, do you want to put money on it Wunder? Dead serious. You're clearly very proud of your post and prediction so u in? $500? I'll take the under on 8 wins including the bowl. Let me know. I have paypal.

Lol at gambling. I have never bet on a sporting event in my life. I'm not going to start with a bet on an uproven team against an anonymous internet tough guy.

Besides, the purpose of the thread was not to reinforce how incredible I am - which I am.

I know that we could still theoretically go 4-8, and that might happen, but we could also theoretically go 9-3.

If we go to a bowl this year, and contend for a division title next year - is Kirk still going to be the worst? Are you still going to want him gone?

Because I think both of those options are more likely than the sort of abject failure that is portrayed as a foregone conclusion in these parts.

Grape, I will speak only for myself. I have been critical of KF because I don't belive Iowa, in this day and age, should ever go 4-8, in any season, and 19-19 in any 3 year span. My only requirement of any Iowa coaching staff is to win the games they should and compete against better teams and win some of those. To me, that boils down to a minimum of 8 wins each season (4-0 non-con, 4-4 BIG). If KF does that, great. If he doesn't, then he shouldn't be louded for past successes between 2002-'04, 2009, or because he's a nice guy. His contract asside (clearly affects his job security) I will judge KF and any Iowa coaching staff on wins and losses. So please quite trying to make it sound as though folks that are very dissatisfied with Iowa's win-loss record the past 3+ seasons simply woke up one day and decided to hate the Iowa Hawkeyes. What actually happened; is that I decided I was tired of seeing Iowa lose so often and having to fight with Minny to keep from becoming the bottom team in the BIG (Legends); which Iowa is currently struggling to do.

Internet tough guy? Did I challenge you to a fight and forget about it? I asked you to make a wager based on your moronic prediction is all.

We'll see.

"Let your illusions last, until they shatter"...great quote from a Jackson Browne song. I'm with you wunder and I've had a 9-3 surprise on my sig for a long time. Now, I'm going to adjust that as I really thought we would be MSU, and it really pisses me off, but 8-4 is where I am. I'm convinced that Connor Cook was inhabited by the ghost of Dan Persa in our game. After watching him against Purdue yesterday, how the hell does he play that way against us. He was protected well yesterday, he stood in there and guess what, he couldn't hit the broad side of a freaking barn...and he was at home. Crazy.

People forget last year at 4-8, we had so many injuries, that the team wasn't able to keep the same people in the same positions and allow them to collectively improve. Right now, outside of Alvis, which hurts, we have the team in tact and they took a major step yesterday. Young teams, QB's in particular, need to go through a process of learning to win. 2008 is an example...and I think this team is on that trajectory. Winning builds confidence...and the NW game is going to be huge. We need to win to get the momentum started. Wisky is going to be a tough one though...that's my only loss remaining on the schedule.

I have never had great love for Ferentz in game coaching skills- not even when he was winning. I don't dislike the guy.

If they start winning again I'll acknowledge that I was wrong and that Ferentz isn't done

I hope to god I eat crow for sure.

But I seriously doubt it.

Being smug about it though really doesn't make it any more believable.

Just an FYI

If he does this I won't want him gone but I will still consider him the worst. By worst I mean I personally can't stand the way he coaches. I also know that if it weren't for attrition at rb and dl we would be average teams this year and last. That would mean Kirk has only average years with a few good ones, but no bad. That is fine for me. Would love to be better but its fine. I believe allot of coaches out there can do that at Iowa and not be so lame in the process.

My biggest fear is when we have a stacked team again we will once again rely on luck to win games instead of going out and taking the wins like we should.

That's fair. And let me clarify - if we finish 4-8 or 5-7 I'm not going to be happy. I feel like this team is on the ascendent. But my faith is not ironclad.
