We haven't had much success at landing some higher rated recruits outside of Iowa, but we did sign Adam Woodbury, Mike Gesell, and Peter Jok. Are there any highly rated players coming up in the next few classes out of Iowa?

Not really. Jerry Myles, '16 probably the best prospect but he's at a prep school in kansas now.

Iowa State has had Cortez Seales on campus a few times w/ no offer. Some people will probably say Dan Tillo or the others. Iowa has shown interest in a 2014 big Okwarabizie from Sioux city but he isn't threatening for the top 150.

Basically barring anybody blowing up on the AAU circuit in the next few years there isn't anybody.

also, it's spelled Gesell. he's a starter, so he probably deserves to have his name spelled right from now on.

Saved you the trouble, Wunder, it will happen again.....

As will someone spelling his name wrong and someone correcting them.

Funny, I cannot tell you how many times I have had to double check the spelling of his name before I post something about him. For whatever reason I can never remember if it is double S or double L in his name.

But he did play on the Iowa AAU team and him growing up just on the other side of the Missouri River makes it hard not to call him an Iowan. I think the state has officially adopted him, at least some of us Hawk fans have, so it is ok to think of Gesell (yep, had to double check) as an Iowan. From what I have seen from him, online and in person, I cannot imagine it bothering him at all.

Just remember the word "sell" is in Gesell's name.

Brady Ernst and Cortez Seales could be good instate recruits for 2015 from eastern Iowa. Some guys like Dan Tillo and Marlon Stewart have a chance to get better. Then there's Cordell Pemsl and Jerry Myles (I know he's moved but still keeps contact with the staff) for 2016. No instate centers on the horizon which is why Okwarabizie bears more attention.

Also, guys in nearby states like Sacar Anim (Minneapolis) might be 2015 possibilities. Besides the homeruns like Eric Davis and Jalen Brunson, we might break into Chicago with mid-high recruits like Evan Boudreaux or Prentiss Nixon or even Joseph Toye.

Guys that I hope we pursue early and hard : Ed Morrow, Simeon HS. Toye. Boudreaux. If we miss on bigs in 2014, then we need to clean up in 2015. These guys are not super highly rated( 90-125) which puts them in our comfort zone, but are good talents.

Just saw some video of Morrow. He looks like a Basabe-type of player. Says Iowa is contacting him the most and he appreciates the staff and style. Will visit Bradley, WI, and NE in upcoming visits. MSU is involved with him as well.

I have to do the same thing...total mental block.

Iowa has GOT to get at least 1 big in this class. The early reviews on Meyer have not been good and we may end up seeing a lot of him if they do not get a big for 2014.

So rush out to sign a big guy because the early reviews of Meyer, who will not have to play much at this season, and then force a signing of a guy that may be worse?

Some things I don't understand, if you can get a far better player in 2015 that will be more ready to contribute than a guy that will take 3 yrs to develop, what would you do?

Also, on the Meyer side, he is a RS freshman who has not logged a minute. I have read good things about him, but he is going to take some time to develop. Needs to develop his physical strength first and foremost because he has some basketball skill. Now is that just recruiting speak, or reality? Time will tell, he doesn't have to play this year and can continue to go all out in practice against good players.

So, back to your point, what big do they get? I mean, Iowa just has a plethora to choose from as they are knocking down the doors.

wait, i live in Sioux City. is South Sioux now considered Iowa? How about Dakota Dunes (North Sioux City, SD)? Is that Iowa too?

;)

Even if Meyer is all that, and I hope he is, you still need a 5th big for 2014. With Basabe and McCabe graduating that leaves Iowa with Woodbury, Olaseni, White, and Meyer to split 60 minutes at both post positions in an uptempo style of play. If Iowa has any problems with injuries or foul troubles your down to Stokes or moving Uthoff over.

As far as who they get, I wish I knew.

My personal opinion, Iowa goes small, unless there are a ton of foul issues. I get your point, I really do, but the issue is that they just don't have a ton of college ready guys knocking down the door.
