Marv Cook predicts 28-10 win

Thinks it will be similar to Minnesota game.

MSU's lack of offense makes me think it is possible. Both teams moderate run success, both teams good defense, but only one team can throw.

MSU has a lot better defense than Minnesota and probably equal offense.

A key matchup might be MSU's lackluster passing attack against our inconsistent secondary. I doubt they'll be able to run the ball on us. Our offense against their defense should be an excellent matchup. We need to win the turnover battle. The only way this is a blowout is if we get a lot of turnovers and big plays.

Iowa is 11th in the country in yards allowed per pass attempt.
16th in passer rating allowed.
8th in interceptions.
14th in completion percentage allowed.

Right, against a good mac team, three horrible teams and a big ten team that doesn't have a passing game.

And, of course, Iowa's defense had nothing at all to do with making teams look bad, right?

By the way, what you said has nothing to do with the point of the thread that Marv is predicting a 28-10 win. Other than you simply posting more drivel about your dislike for the Hawks.

Good job!

Sorry you missed the post I responded to. Check again if you care why I responded. Oh, and continue to believe that the hawks defense is good this year. And continue to believe the level of competition that you play against is meaningless.

Everyone has played a soft schedule so far. JD linked it, we have had one of the tougher schedules so far in the BIG.....so we are comparing our outcomes with outcomes from other soft schedules.

Hawks will be top 30 in the country in most of those stats at the end of the season. And some people will complain about the secondary the entire season.

I'll continue to believe it....thanks for the encouragment.

And since we have had one of the tougher schedules in the conference and still have that good a ranking on defense, then I think it stands up just fine.

I know, I know.....we don't have a coach that is "SO PROUD" like your favorite coach, so that probably puts us down a few notches.

My bad!

Oh is that the same one that said we have had a higher SOS than Wisconsin.. :)

Who gives a crap about SOS anyway. Fact is Iowa must win this weekend because things change dramatically after MSU..

Match ups are a difficult thing to predict when you don't have a large bank of data to analyze...and you just don't know how good the teams you have played really are. I have to see our receivers get open with aggressive physical corners pressing them. I need to see our guards stop large defensive tackles from blowing up the line of scrimmage and collapsing the pocket.

There are a few important things we are about to learn about this Iowa team on offense. I'm looking forward to it. If they handle Michigan State and finish drives...we have some serious upside this year as NW, Wisky, and Michigan become very, very winnable games...Here's to hoping we are as good as most are posting...like Marv Cook.

In-season stats don't mean anything in college football.
See: Minnesota rushing offensive stats last week.

Love the position match-ups. Worried about a team that can throw the ball.

I am starting to agree with Marv on this one. Iowa is simply a better all around football team right now. They even have a freshmen as a kicker. I would be shocked if msu somehow manages more than 10 pts against us with that offense. With a raucous home crowd and on the strength of a couple turnovers from defensive line pressure, Iowa wins big 24-3.

You do realize the hawks have played only one team that could pass the ball? Isu hadn't really passed well until the Tulsa game and Messingham called a horrible game against Iowa until 7 minutes left in the game.

As far as Rhoads being my favorite coach? That is funny. I have said a lot on here that he is NOT a big time college football coach. He seems more like a MAC coach to me.
