Ferentz game management staples

The whole coin toss thing annoys me, those who criticie teams who receive to start the game are thinking its a video game. When you play NCAA online there is a good chance both teams score every possession so you want the ball in the 3rd in case you gave up a score to end the 2nd. In real life, it doesnt really matter.

The weird thong about the coin toss is how Kirk takes the ball 1st every time regardless of situation yet in OT against Penn St on '02, he won the toss and chose side instead of taking the ball 2nd. That put us at a huge disadvantage and the fact that every coach in the history of college overtime takes the ball 2nd proves that.

There is a reason they called the play. The coaches probably saw something that would make it work. Also, I am sure you have complained often about how PREDICTABLE the Iowa offense is. That call was unpredictable and, of course, you want to complain about it.

You completely miss the point. But that's ok. I'm getting used to your way of thinking from a lot of folks on here.

Call me crazy, but I don't care for 45-41 games. Just like I don't care for 9-8 baseball games. Give me a 28-27 game any day of the week, in which the D's make plays, and the offense isn't able to just run up and down the field like a pop warner football game. I have never found Oregon to be fun to watch.....
Wow, you don't like great offense? You realize they played some decent defenses. I would love to see Iowa be that effective on offense.

A football game is Offense, Defense, and Special teams. I like to see all facets, not just one dominate, just as a 7-6 game isn't much fun to watch. Plus I never said I wish Iowa wasn't BETTER on offense. Just that watching a 45-41 game (with or without Iowa involved) isn't as fun for me as watching an all around well played game that is 28-27.

Sorry dude, just what I prefer.

Yeah, I like to see a team play well in all phases of the game. That's what Iowa had Banks senior season. The games were we won 28-27 were some of Kirks best seasons were we got the breaks and won. Lately we have not been good enough to get the breaks and win close games. But give me one year when an Iowa team is lead by the offense instead of relying on the dee to win the game.

Safety Pins

I share all the observations of the OP. Never understood the slow/knee before the half either. I think this O will look a lot different than anything we've seen in Iowa city since Hayden came out that Saturday in 1979 against Indiana in the spread formation.

Not sure what you're basing this on, but gawd I hope you are correct! I was at the '79 Indiana game and the excitement in the stands was palpable. Last year's offense was unwatchable.

Not valuing scoring until the end of the game. Points in the first half count just as much as they do in the last 5 minutes, try it sometime.
