Bad answer coach. Every freaking running back on the team better be Big Ten running back or you are not doing your job.

1) Get a clue. KF actually has a sense of humor. Basically, he was saying they didn't know how the RB situation would turn out last year.

2) You better report this to your friend with the body language in the Athletic Department. They'll need this evidence to go along with Barta's "warning shot".

3) Tin foil hats can cook your brain during a hot summer.

He could say the same about Qbs this yr couldn't he? I agree with Hawkeyebob it's Ferentz actually making light of it. You have to admit after the attrition the RB position has had the last 5 plus yrs he deserves some leeway in how he addresses that topic.

Reading the body language, taffy appears to be trolling hard today

This sounds like a jab at the recruiting? If all the players bidding for the job are new to the team or new to the position, you don't know if they're B1G quality. Greg Garmon (4 star recruit) was one of the players trying to win the job and he obviously wasn't a B1G running back. Best backs on the team last year were Bullock who had no other offers and a FB transfer from Air Force. Going into this year I think everyone is pretty happy to have them. Have to play the games before you really know anything.

Speaking of that, who is the fastest guy on the team this year? And please don't tell me Tanner Miller. Good grief.

Isn't it Shumpert? I imagine Cotton holds his own, as well.

And supposedly, Weisman is as quick/fast as any in the 10-yard "burst" drills (which I can believe, it's his top-end speed that doesn't match up with most RBs and WRs, and nobody even debates that)

Willie guy can fly

Re: Last year at this time, quite frankly, we didn't know if we had a Big Ten running

I'd say Cotton is among the fastest along with Canzeri and Smith. I've also heard good things about Willie's speed as well. Hope he can live up to the hype. I'll be curious to see what this Damon Powell can do on this level.

I think the correct answer is....If Weisman saids hes the fastest, then hes the fastest. No questions asked.

I have no doubt Weisman is NOT the fastest. But if HE says he is...then he gets zero argument from me!

I just remember reading Shumpert's name in the discussion at some point.

Again, though, "fastest" for what? 40-yard and 100-meter speed may be more "useful" on a football field. But show me the play that calls for a 100-meter "square-out" and I'll give more credence to 100-meter speed.

Top-end speed only counts if the guy is being chased or running a "fly" pattern. It counts little between the tackles or in short-yardage situations. Hence the reason Iowa DBs--frankly, ANY team's DBs--have few to no match-up problems in the red zone relating to "speed". Height, strength and quickness as it relates to getting better position means a lot more.

Anybody think McNutt was appreciably faster than Chris L Rucker in 2009? Anybody care? Prolly not. But he got inside a half-step quicker. 7 got 6.

I don't think KF was trying to be funny, I think he was saying that Bullock was fairly unproven at the B1G level.

Kirk Ferentz tells a lot of jokes no one else gets but him.

Probably not "ha-ha" funny, but he certainly was implying that with the luck we have had at the position, and the fact that Canzeri and Hill were out and Coker and McCall had transferred, plus Malloy being injured for a time left the staff wondering how things would go.

All that above makes for one of those, "I-laugh-lest-I-might-cry" moments.
