Gee, does this mean the BTN will actually broadcast some of Iowa's preconference games? It gets pretty old watching their crappy internet feed while they broadcast some other Big Ten team's contest against cannon fodder.
I would not hold my breath on Iowa getting more non-conference dates on BTN.
Listening to BTN president Silverman the other day, a question from Doc of the Gazette was a thinly veiled shot at this issue....and Silverman once again said they are about high ratings, and biggest audiences.
He admitted that they will be severely challenged to cover 14 schools in bb in the non-conference and then pointed to BTN2Go as the answer...in other words...get ready for most Iowa games to always be online, not on their linear network. I was hoping that Doc would followup with a question about alternate channels for bb like they use for fb,but I think he knew the answer would be no...not cost effective.
Silverman gushed about the BTN2Go programming and is pushing it very hard.
That will be where Iowa will be found, going forward.
If I remember correctly, the first year of the BTN's existence, their streaming video was free. Now it requires a paid subscription. And here I thought I was already paying for the BTN content through my cable company.
And if the sole intention of the network programming is to garner big ratings, how come Nebraska had more preconference games broadcast last year than Iowa did? Are they seriously trying to tell us there is more interest in Cornhusker basketball than there is in the Hawkeyes? I believe for the last two years, Iowa has had the least number of their preconference basketball games televised than any member of the Bit Ten. This is not what Hawkeye fans were promised when the BTN was being touted.
This is terrible news for dave3912 as he hates ESPN and does not watch that station at all.
