I have a good feeling about this season boys....

Last year was embarrassing and I am sure the players know it. Ferentz has had the heat turned up on him in and out of the media, and that cannot sit well with them. I have a feeling that last season was a product of a new offense, and some disconnect with players and coaches. Now with a re-vamped staff, and one year of experience with the offense, good things are to come. I think these kids are going to play their butt's off for Ferentz and really suprise some people. There was a thread on another board about how close the underclassmen are and how much they want to win for Ferentz. I don't think kids ever didn't want to win for their coach, but sometimes it takes a punch in the nose to open your eyes and stop going through the motions.

Iowa always seems to play better when they are flying under the radar. I'm pretty excited for what this season brings because I think it's going to be a fun one.

The closer I get to the season the more optimistc I'm getting. I'm excited for football to start up again. Hopefully we have a surprising season!

I think we have a chance to be much better than most think. But we do have a lot of ifs. One thing I am counting on is GD being a good OC and that last year was a product of the players learning a new system and part of the staff not being on the same page. Which is true. If GD is not the man we could be in real trouble. So could KF.

I've been optimistic about this season since I saw spring practice videos. At this point, I really can't distinguish between optimism about the team and excitement about football being just a few weeks away.

Iowa will win their first five games in the face of pessimistic fans. Then they will lose three straight to NW, OSU, and MSU and folks will be back on the ledge. Then they will close with 3-1, losing to Michigan and beating Nebby in Lincoln. 8-4 baby!! Book it!

This is kinda where I am at too. I really want to chalk up last season as a fluke. I mean, you have an OC that's been around for 40 years and has a season like that? You almost couldn't write a horror story of an offense that bad if you tried.

One thing is for sure. If the offense does not score lots of points they won't win many games this year.

Please say you'll bet me on this.

Yea Freed, I think controlling the clock will be as big of deal as points. They have to keep the D off the field. If they continue to put the D back on in bad field position it will be ugley. I sure wish I knew of a couple of young DL that were going to step up big time. Carl Davis could be huge this year. The secondary while OK I dont feel will be great. We have grown used to having a all conference corner Hyde, Prater and Spivey. Dont see one this year.

I don't think Iowa is as "talent-less" as some people believe. If this season even remotely mirrors the 2008 season, then it will be successful.

If Iowa ends with a 9-4 record and a win in the Outback bowl, anyone not considering that a success is just being a jerk.

I would be ecstatic with this. I still only see two wins on the season, hopefully I am wrong.

The GD offense can work (especially with the right QB) and I think that's been proven with two NC games in the last 8 years. However, I'm not sure the combination of the KF offense and the GD offense works. That's why I think GD needs to be in control of the offense especially the passing game and QB.

I think offenses that work are developed through trial and error, sometimes over long periods of time, and the plays compliment each other to cause problems for the defense, so just mixing stuff together is not likely to work. I think that might have been part of the problem last year.

There is zero chance Iowa only wins 2 games.

Boat, as I don't think Iowa will only win 2 games, but I think it might be just as likely as your prediction of 8-4. I would love for Iowa to win 8 games but I just don't see it happening based on last season and who this team returns without seeing them play right now. I want to see how far along the players are with the offseason coaching changes and year two under OC Davis before I predict anything like 8-4 and saying zero chance of only 2 wins.

Vegas has the over/under at 5.5 I believe, and I am bullish and taking the over for sure. I understand that 8-4 seems out of reach based on last year, but I am optimistic by nature. They will lose to OSU and Mich, the rest of the games are definitely winnable.

5.5 over/under isn't what they think is actually supposed to happen but merely to drive betting and Vegas knows that Iowa at 5.5 is going to drive betting. Iowa fans being optimistic and non-Iowa fans look at last season and the coaching changes and probably see at a lock for the under especially with this schedule. I don't like to gamble but I think 5-6 wins is the most probable in IMO right now, just too many question marks for me to believe yet.
