Best Helmet in B1G



How does Wisconsin have a bye? That helmet is one of the dumbest looking in the country. Could the W be any bigger?
Michigan has the coolest helmets in the country.
 








Welp, I voted for the northwestern nerds, but it doesn't look like its gonna happen. Sparty's got a 70%-30% lead.
I still like our chances.
 


Bitchigan likely wins it just because everyone is broke back mountain over the wings/stripes/whatever they at on them.
 


Overall, I would say that Big 10 helmets are pretty lame. 2 are blank or with a stripe. 6 are just an initial. 2 are university names or abbreviations. Only 4 have any substantive creativity.

It is difficult to make choices without clear criteria. For instance:

Which helmet best matches the team's recent performance? Maryland for being so sporadic.

Which best matches the team's traditional performance? Ohio State once you add a bunch of stickers.

Which best matches the coaches' morality? Penn State because it is blank.

Which is the most distinctively enduring? Michigan.

Which one sets up for the best jokes? Tie between Nebraska for "Knowledge" and Rutgers for "Right" (it has an L on the other side).
 






It's too bad Michigan and Iowa are in the same division in this poll. They are the best two of the 12 helmets. I'll venture that Michigan wins based on history. I think the helmets with logos and graphics are more original than those with initials. Of recent helmet designs I feel Michigan States helmet has been improved using a better logo. Illinois had a better helmet when it still had the logo of the Chief, but they can't use it now because it violates policies regarding native Americans.

In my case, because I don't like Illinois' font on their helmets. Reminds me of the Iowa impact font on the hoops jerseys when Alford was our coach. So I voted for PSU's over theirs.

Regarding Michigan - I've never understood the hype around their helmets. Three stripes. Ok. It's unique, but that doesn't make it "cool looking" IMO. I'll bet you a dollar and a donut that if Michigan didn't have so much tradition, that people wouldn't think their helmets were so "cool". Ditto for PSU or Nebraska.

Agree on Wisconsin's helmets, though. That big W is pretty cheesy.

Agreed, and that's why the NCAA is stupid. Political correctness ruins another good thing that wasn't hurting anybody.
 




In every case the team with the most votes is the team with the greater winning tradition. IU and PU were the closest which mirrors their recent winning tradition
 




I think Michigan's are unique in a good way. I'd put them #1 and Iowa #2. I liked when MSU switched to the Spartan, but then they ruined it with that shrinking stripe. Other than that, none are really special.

MSU has had like 9 different greens in the last 7 years. They are the best at looking bad.
 


Ohio states look pretty cool under the lights with the silver flake in them. Nationally, I love what the ducks do with their helmets. Some say bits too much but i say cool for school. And im old too
