Iowa's Non-Conference Schedule for 2013-2014 Season

Also I read Iowa is trying to get a home and home series with an ACC team...any ideas who that may be?

Interesting, I had read that a home and home with a BCS conference school may be scheduled. This is the first time I have seen a specific conference tied to it.

Obviously I think we would all want Duke or UNC. More than likely won't happen though.

Like 136, this is the first I've heard the ACC mentioned and I really don't think it would be an ACC team. We already have the ACC/B1G challenge. It seems redundant to me.

I would think it would be a Big 12 or Pac 12 team. I had actually heard Kansas or Kansas St. Can't remember which one or where. I think it was on HawkCentral.

Just my $.02 .. ..

GO HAWKS!!!

We already have a home and home with a Big 12 team, every year. A Pac 12 matchup, or a Missouri matchup, would make more sense to me.

I would prefer a team from out east for a home and home over a team from the Pac 12.

Georgetown, Pitt, Marquette (I know they are in Wisky but their conference is mostly eastern teams), Nova all would do more for me than anybody from the Pac 12, save one team.

Wouldnt it be something if GarBar landed a home and home with UCLA?

I agree with a previous poster, that Iowa should be doing a home and home with a east coast school. I'd assume Fran wants to keep his name relevant over there.

St. Johns
Villanova
Georgetown
Seton Hall
Uconn
Pitt
Cuse

Plenty of opportunities for a quality match up with the Big East or whatever they're called now. It'd be cool to give thanks to Mel for following Fran out into the unknown by scheduling a Seton Hall or St. Johns game this year.

All due respect, I will take Frans opinion in regards to the OOC schedule. He wanted wins last year and has never changed his tune on that. The OOC schedule is not the reason Iowa missed the NCAA tournament. It's the blown second half leads in Madison, Minneapolis, Lincoln and West Lafayette that sent Iowa to the NIT.

This is true, but I would say that the OOC is ONE of the reasons Iowa did not make the tournament. Blowing too many other games was the other.

Thing is, you also want a good seed. If Iowa had won a couple of those games it blew, it would have gotten into the tournament, but probably at a 12 seed. Just look at Oregon.

If you want a good seed, you have to know how to work the RPI as well, and that means a solid OOC schedule.

I agree with the blown leads and the OOC has nothing to do with those losses. Iowa was a bad program when Fran got here and wins do matter to a point. Scheduling teams that the walk-ons can beat was and always has been my issue any year, not just under Fran.

On the ACC team, I found that odd as well when they schedule one every year in the challenge. It may be easier to get that game than another league based on relationships...not sure. Also with half the Big East moving Fran can still get games in the East.
Honestly, I would like to see a Villanova series to see Fran coach back home.

While technically true, I don't view the ISU game as Big 12 vs. B1G. That's an instate rivalry to me that should be played regardless. But I do see your point.

Having thought about it a little more and reading some of the other posts, I think an east coast school would be beneficial from a recruiting standpoint. I'd lean towards a Big East or AAC school to keep our name out there on the east coast.

Missouri would be a tough game, different conference etc. I don't think it would help our recruiting that much if at all. Not much benefit in playing them.

We scheduled 'em. Now we have to win 'em.

Even with a tough non-conference schedule, you have to get to X wins to be considered for the tournament.

Exactly. Win these games and it is a fantastic start. Lose and it is a horrific start. We will know where this team is at pretty early in the season.
