Mike Rice fired

He had never finished above 500... losing coach at a school with not a lot of basketball tradition - yeah you are not gettign away with that..

Interesting to ponder whether the reaction would have been the same if that had been Roy Williams, Coach K, Bill Self or even Tom Crean on those videos.

Not really, because all of them are smarter than that.

We assume they are. The hypothetical assumes that they are just as abusive towards players behind closed practice doors and whether it would be viewed in the same away as Rice's misbehavior. Or, as has been suggested, does winning take care of everything?

If I'm the Rutgers president, Robert Barchi, I have one question for my athletics director: what did you see on those tapes that stopped you from terminating your subordinate when you first became aware of them?

Pernetti can't reasonably answer that.

From everything I read about him, the RU AD seems to be a genuinely good guy. I'm guessing he truly felt he could help Rice out long term trying to rehab him as opposed to cutting him loose. Now whether or not that was the right decision, is up for debate.

All these guys have been coaching a long time they know how to navigate past landmines. I get what you are saying and i understand the hypothetical it just seems kinda pointless because these guys would never get jammed up like this.

Unless the answer is..."In our December meeting you agreed with my assessment of 3 games and $50k."

And I'm guessing Barchi's response would be something to the effect that the description Pernetti gave in December of what was on the tapes was nowhere near reflective of the kind of abuse that was taking place. The next sentence would be "You're fired."

I agree and think the AD is gone. However, this could and should go higher if the President of Rutgers saw the tape and agreed with the previous punishment.

Have to agree with Triton.

I thought I heard them say he AND the President reviewed the tapes and came to the suspension decision. Maybe I misunderstood, however, if that is the case I would be shocked if the New Jersey equivalent of the Iowa Board of Regents doesn't terminate him also!!

That AD must truly be a grade-A dumb@$$. Not only did that dumb pr!ck not fire that psychotic embarrassment of a coach for a clearly firable offense, but he either actively or passively terminated the individual who brought the matter to the school's attention. Said individual is now suing Rutgers for wrongful termination (wish I was that dude's lawyer, talk about a slam dunk.)

So let's review. Dumb@$$ AD not only retains a jerkdoosh coach who should clearly be fired (and this jackoff AD admits that there will be a firestorm when the video is publicized, but keeps the moron coach anyway); he also either orchestrates or allows the termination of the whistleblower, exposing his institution to certain litigation.

Explain to me how that pig sodomizer keeps his job.

And the next question that must be asked is what the president of Rutgers knew, when he/she (I don't know who the F it is nor do I care) knew it, and what his/her involvement was and should have been.

Also, let's all give Jim Delany a hearty two-fingered salute for inviting this claven of idiots into the B1G.

Sooo. Anyone wonder why Todd Lickliter had more trouble with players transferring than Mike Rice? New Jersey just can't be that great right?
