Could Next Year's Scrub 1-5 beat Lick Era All-Star 1-5?

1. Jeff Peterson
2. Matt Gatens
3. Freshman Eric May
4. Aaron Fuller
5. Jarryd Cole

Right now I would take Lick on 2-5. Maybe Olaseni over Cole next year. But that has a great potential to change.

I think the scrubs are far stronger defensively, and I'm not sure that Clemmons doesn't get the nod over Peterson.

I wouldn't put too much distance between Oglesby and May, either.

I don't like having Meyer there because he's an unknown, but it's unrealistic to think that he'll get more minutes than McCabe. If you slot McCabe in there, I think he's even with Fuller and the whole complexion of the exercise changes.

I think the Lick team would take it...but the fact it's even comparable is crazy.

Actually this is a fun thread. I would prefer to look at it as 6 through 10 next year:
AC
Uthoff
McCabe
JO
Gabe
Vs the best of Lick.

6-10 wasn't even worth it to me. I think a team of:

Clemmons
Jok/Oglesby
Uthoff
McCabe
Olaseni

Easily destroys Lick's best.

Depends on whether we count coaching/style of play, or we're strictly looking at talent.

I'm having difficulty believing that any Lick coached team could beat any Fran coached team.

But that's not an assessment of the 5-6 guys that would be on an 'all star' team for the Lick years.

Then I like the scrub team's odds even more. Kelley had a 1:1 assist to turnover ratio for almost his entire career.

I think the A:TO ratio for Kelley had a lot to do with the fact that the team asked him to do so much on offense.

I would take Kelley over Peterson any day.

This is as dumb of a question as the ones who ask if Alabama could have beaten the Chiefs.

Or if the Baylor women could beat the worst Division 1 mens team.

What!?!? Where's little Lick? I kid, of course.

Actually it would be the coaching style that would be the difference maker.
If Lick was coaching... No.
If Fran was coaching... WAY fun game to watch.

It's nowhere near that ridiculous.

Anthony Clemmons vs. Jeff Peterson (career 6 pts/3 assists)
Pat Ingram vs. Matt Gatens (the lone obvious mismatch)
Josh Oglesby vs. 19 year old Eric May
Kyle Meyer vs. Aaron Fuller (career 6 pts/4 rbs)
Gabe Olaseni vs. Jarryd Cole (career 7 pts/5 rbs)

Not exactly the Lakers they're playing. Even if you want to add in Jake Kelley, that dude is career 9 pts/2.5 assists.

Definitely not. Kelly would have the edge over Clemmons right now. Gatens, while he wasn't the Gatens of last February under Lick, would still be better than Ingram or Oglesby. Freshman May would be the Lick all-stars weakest link, but I'd still think he'd be better than anything currently on our bench (with the exception of current Eric May).

The only one I'd consider giving an edge to would be Olaseni. But I think I'd like to see him develop a little more before I make that decision.

Except you're forgetting Jake Kelly, who most certainly holds an edge over Clemmons. Kelly was arguably the best player during Lick's time here. Fuller gets the edge, if for no other reason than Meyer has yet to play a single minute. And for right now, I'd say Cole has an edge. Olaseni could very easily surpass him, though.
