What changes next season so we are in the tourney?

Leading candidate for the dumbest post of the day! Congrats!

Must be the only one you've read. You really don't think Fran would be in trouble after 4 years of no NCAA tournament? He may get one more shot but he would definitely be on the hot seat considering he returns everyone but May.

#3 NIT seeds aren't bubble teams. Iowa was the lowest RPI of the "bubblers". A bubble team implies consideration given. None was given.

Yeah...dont really care about your bet. Do what you want

Iowa was on the bubble, no matter how far back, was still there, per almost everyone. Two committee members arr quoted as Iowa being in the convo...however lightly dont matter. Bubble

This is the dumbest bet ever, personally, I think Iowa losing to MSU took them off the bubble for selection sunday, they were out. Were they on the bubble prior to that? According to some sites they were "next four out" but is that on the bubble? You two need to just let it go and stay out of Vegas because your bets are terrible. That's like betting on "Are pancakes delicious?", well, maybe to most, but not to all so who is right?

Come on man everyone knows pancakes are delicious....at first.

What changes is that our leading scorer marble becomes a senior, white and bass be add another year of experience along with three freshman, and we pick up jok, Meyer, and utoff. All of these things lead to a huge year. Watch and see

The only real question is "are we the favorite to win the National Championship or just the B1G?"

You answered your own question. Marble

We will be a force. Come back next season and beg forgiveness when it happens.:p
Marble's first step is average at best. Just look at this year when he had the ball with the clock winding down or at the end of the game or half. More often than not, he did not get a great look.

I can't completely disagree with you on Iowa being a "force", because I think they could be very good defensively. But I still think they could have scoring droughts and have trouble at end-of-game situations.

I think Marble will improve his handles and shooting percentage going into next year. Defenders will have to respect his shot which will make it easier for him to drive to the basket. I could see him scoring 16 ppg next year.

I don't, coaching changes usually set a program back even more. The talent is there, but it is accompanied by youth.

Fran isn't going to be on the hot seat for awhile regardless whether they make or miss the tourney next year. The bottom line is that he is putting butts in the seats at Carver once again.

Also, yes we will make the dance next year and I predict a 4 seed. We have enough talent currently to make it to the top 4 of our conference with the core of our starters still with multiple seasons to play. Add in new faces with some pretty big up side and you have a formula for success.

Fran has this team buying in defensively and as long as you have a roster full of good solid players that will leave it on the court every night then you have a chance. Fran has never lost a team in his coaching career, never. His players love to play for him because they know how much he puts into their success and futures.

He also has an eye for talent that has already proven to pay dividends. Something Lickliter failed miserably at. Not to mention Fran's proven player retention record throughout his career. Rome wasn't built in a day folks. Fran is building this a step at a time. He will get there as long as our stupid fanbase doesn't get overly impatient which I have already seen people doing this year after some close losses.

Really? Read the following my friend and then go back to sleep. Taken directly from an ESPN article:

NCAA tournament committee chair Mike Bobinski said Kentucky was in a group with Southern Miss, Alabama, Tennessee, Virginia, Iowa and a few others for the final spot in the field.

I think he'd be on the hot seat next year if he doesn't make it. He clearly has the players for it, and the fans are only going to accept the NIT for so long. Excitement is back in the Iowa basketball program but it won't last forever without regular trips to the tournament.

Thanks for 99% who provided some good posts. For those who take every opportunity to take personal shots at people for posting anything they don't agree with, I suggest you stick to dungeons and dragons. Why aren't we in the tourney? IMO (and raised by others), we did not finish games. We did not finish games because we only have one proven scorer (Marble) and nobody else could step up. Because we lack a second scorer and strong finisher in the paint, teams cranked up the D late in games and we wilted. I agree with opinion of others who mentioned we need a breakdown guy at the PG spot and while I like Gesell, I see him as a better 2 and Clemmons handle or lack thereof causes reason for concern.

What I saw from Clemmons this year was alot of frehman mistakes imo. He is a step quicker and more athletic than Gesell. You could see this when he takes the ball to the hoop where he usually has an easier time getting by the initial defender. Where Clemmons has to make the adjustment is after the first burst he needs to stay under control and make better decisions. He has shown an ability to distribute the basketball all season based on his 3 assists per game with backup minutes. That is impressive for a true freshman. Add another offseason of practice with coaches, a trip to europe to develop even more chemistry with his teammates and the ptl, I really think he will be a critical part of our success next year. I look for him and Gesell to be go to guys as this team develops. His handles will keep improving along with his bball IQ as do nearly all freshmen going into their sophomore seasons. People tend to focus to much on the mistakes he made and not enough on the positives he brought to the floor.

I agree that Iowa needs another go to scorer other than Marble. Marble has his limitations but he is the only current player on the roster who can do something in end of shot clock situations. Iowa plays well at times when they are moving the ball, cutting, and getting some fast break opportunities. Aaron White scores just fine when the ball is moving well and he can find open space. It's nice to have a guy like White who can score or pick up fouls without having to have the offense run through him. He is an easy guy to defend when the ball is not moving well. He isn't a guy you can give the ball to at the end of shot clock situations and expect him to break guys down off the dribble consistently.

I really like Clemmons. I think he can work to tighten up his dribble and make a big step forward. I think at times he just gets playing a bit to fast. It's not like he was Eric May as a freshman and hand no ball handling skills. Clemmons has some nice ball handling skills and is pretty good at splitting the double teams/getting into the paint. I don't think he is a great scorer but I think he can be really effective by tighting up his dribble and maybe developing a floater when he gets into the lane. He is pretty athletic and has a different game than Gesell at the PG spot. Mike is more controlled, a better shooter, and a bit more timid at times. Clemmons is a real nice change of pace and seems to be better at pushing the ball and a bit better at creating with a good defender on him.

I agree it would be awesome if Iowa had a Oladipo type 2 guard but that just is not in the cards. Iowa has and is getting the talent to be consistently in games. The MSU game is a just a classic example of not quite having a stud player to just make a few plays late in that game durning that horrid 9 minute scoring drought. I think a better creator could have at least made a bit more happen durning that run. Iowa's bread and butter is fast breaking and moving the ball well in half court sets. They are not a team that is going to do well against upper tier team when the shot clock is under 10 and someone just needs to create.

that is all

Iowa also stayed in a lot of games this year with improved defense. They played good team defense and it helps having Woody(not a great shot blocker) but a 7'1 body makes people alter shots. Alos Gabe really stepped up his defense at times in terms of being a shot blocker. Gabe still gets lost at times on defense but he is really pretty good at protecting the rim.
