USA Today thinks Iowa needs to win the conference tourney to get in

Once again, non-conference schedule is only a fraction of the season - Iowa plays far more games IN CONFERENCE. The entire season's SOS should be taken into account, not just cherry-picking the non-conference portion of it and using that as the reason for why Iowa should not be in the Tournament.

Iowa is not a good road team - Once again, how many of the bubble teams HAVE been good on the road? You have to compare Iowa to other bubble teams, not just look at Iowa's resume in a vacuum.

Compare Iowa's resume to the other bubble teams, and it falls short. Really? How many Top 50 wins do the other bubble teams have? How many road wins against Top 50 opponents do the other bubble teams have? Yeah.

Getting to the BTT final will give Iowa 23 wins, 6 wins over Top 50 opponents (assuming wins over MSU & OSU this weekend), in the best conference in the country - and that is an NIT team?

Whatever.

But I fear that if people repeat this "Iowa must win the BTT tournament to get in" BS enough, it will become fact.

Seriously. What the hell is wrong with these guys? That is just stupid. Even with two wins our resume is better than most every team on the bubble. These guys are ******* stupid.

At what point does this become self-fulfilling prophecy?

the media is an echo-chamber. At some point, won't the same thing be repeated enough that it just becomes the conventional wisdom?

i guess fans have to hope the selection committee is somehow sequestered from the media.

Keep drinking the kool aid cliche.

BTW, did we really need another thread about this? There are so many other threads discussing whether or not Iowa is getting into the tournament.

Oh, and please confirm with us that you actually are a Hawkeye fan and not a troll as others have suggested. You starting threads and posting crap like this really make it difficult to tell.

What kool-aid am I drinking? I'm actually really interested in the selection process and I'm not going to allow myself to get in to the "well we play in the B1G so everyone else sucks" and "oh we are a top 30 team no one can deny" and "we're 9-9 in conference we're better than Illinois" and yadda yadda yadda. It makes a mockery of the selection process. There was more actual legitimate discussion going on here when there were others besides myself to counteract the Jihadic wing; now it is not so much a discussion as one giant wankfest.

i think every time a different news outlet or tv/radio personality says this we should start a completely new thread about it. it is by far the best way to keep the topic well organized. maybe someone should ask the food section editor for the Sioux City Journal if Iowa needs to win the BTT to get in the dance. i'm sure they'd say something provocative...

The same crap clowns drink or whatever koolaid is anti-Iowa.

You only want to discuss the selection process if it shows how Iowa will be left out of the tournament.

There was more actual legitimate discussion going on here when there were others besides myself to counteract the Jihadic wing; now it is not so much a discussion as one giant wankfest.

Oh so this is supposed to be some fan neutral forum and your presence here is just to balance out (ILHawk term) "fan-aticism" that goes on here or (your term) wankfest, right?

The whole idea to having a legitimate discussion is to entertain points on both sides of the argument, something you do not want to consider. I have seen your side of the argument, I do not agree with it nor will any other doofus articles/opinions you can dig up ever change it.

There are no exact answers as to how the selection process is going to go down and no "bracketologist" has all the answers, it all comes down to the opinions of 10 people that are on the committee. All that we know as fact is that they get handed sheets that show them the RPI ranks and profiles of each school. Anything else they may be using or doing is purely speculation.

But please answer the question, are you or are you not a Hawkeye fan?

Yes SSK only positive Hawkeye stuff or one is a troll. We get it.

It's an interesting read. When it gets down to it, Fran has no one to blame but Fran if we don't make it. The schedule, the game at Nebraska where our STELLAR perimeter defense allowed guards to shoot way over their average. That is especially bad because they (Husdker do) really have absolutely beyond a shadow of a doubt incredibly NO INSIDE GAME (well they do have a pretty big screener). If we don't make it in short of winning the tourney, it will be easy to point to that game as indicative of road ability. The NCAA committee isn't sitting around worrying about mad Iowa fans or coaches. Hopefully we'll get in AND Fran will learn from this.

Someone posted about a play in game. Has a major conference team ever played in a play in game?

I never called him a troll, his Hawkeye loyalty was questioned in another thread all I am asking him to do is confirm it. These forums would be boring as heck if we all agreed all the time.

That article was interesting? What did you find out in that article that you already did not know? We all know our OOC SOS sucks, this article did not bring anything new to light.

There are now two 12/13 seed games played in the first round (they are not called "play in" anymore). The last 4 in the tournament play each other to advance to the 2nd round.

Ironic that you forward this proposition, because through my observations, I have come to an antithetical conclusion. This "echo chamber" you contend does exist, but not in the national conversation, but rather within these electronic walls.

Key sentence in this article:
But like many so-called bubble teams, Iowa’s resume has its high points and its low points.

Can't just automatically write Iowa off as an NIT team, because so many other teams have the same holes in their resumes as well.

No kidding. Stevens says bad losses, losses away from home, and schedule strength are the red flags for Iowa's resume; look at Virginia's resume, they are worse than Iowa in all three of those categories (7 losses against the RPI 115+, to Iowa's one). Yet they are ahead of us on the bubble. Apparently Stanford has at-large hopes but we don't, even though Stanford is 0-9 against the RPI top 47 (Iowa is 4-8). At least one of those statistics is important (probably both, as they should be), thus Iowa can't be put behind both of those teams.

All the "experts" seem quick to poke holes in Iowa's resume, yet neglect the same holes if they are in someone else's resume.

Anybody down for a letter writing campaign followed by a boycott? The lack of media respect in both football and basketball is beyond absurd.
