What is Coach K is scared of?

How many times in recorded history has a college crowd rushed the court? How many accidents or other incidents have resulted in any injury to any player or fan? I rest my case.

Not yet, but it will happen eventually and almost did happen this year in a NC State game. Guy in a wheelchair got knocked over and about got trampled before being helped by one of the players.

^although this stuff is rare,as the poster points out, it does happen. Should we be allowed to rush the field knowing something like this could happen? Not sure. I've never rushed the field. As we talk about this I think of the one college football player that punched the fan. I think it was a nebby player right? That's what I'm surprised we don't see more if as losing players leave the field after losing a tough game.

It is not so much that fans rushed the court, but a fan approached Coach Krzyzewski and insulted him, trying to provoke a confrontation. Just like I have been trying to explain all along, there is nothing wrong with celebrating with your own team, but if you need to insult the opponents in the process, and tell so-and-so that they s***, then you're a poor sport and part of the problem.

Duke has a policy in place that they don't storm the court as does the SEC and Kansas.

The SEC's policy doesn't work. Duke and Kansas' policy is just being really ******* good every year so you expect to win every single home game, that policy usually works a little better.

How many SEC teams have stormed the court the past few years? Please expand on why it isn't working.

PerMar is the answer for BB games....

....considering they have such a stellar history at the FB games.

Most (if not all) college games don't allow alcohol so I don't see it as a big problem. If anything were to escalate it would be a player on the losing team staring something which ignites the fans.

I am sure there are students who sneak alcohol in.

I don't think rushing the court should be allowed. There are too many things that can go wrong. Why even put yourself in a position for bad things to happen.

Emotions can be high for the team that lost and the fans that just won. I would hate to see a player punch a student who starts bumping him.

I just don't think fans should be allowed to rush the floor.

Good story. In a a district game I played in hs against a rival team, one of our fans punched the other teams star player as he left the court walking into the locker room at half time. For realz.

Wow. That ain't cool. Did he get away with that?

So my question is........what can be done? Some say nothing. I say, the day is coming when barriers will surround the court like a fence or net.

In the early years of basketball, many times the court was enclosed in a chain-link fence. That is why basketball players are quaintly called "cagers."

Coach K the blue devil look alike can't handle his overhyped teams losing to ACC bottom feedeers. Start winning Coach Devil and you won't have teams storming the court on your overated team.

It used to be a brutal sport. My grandpa told me stories of playing in little gyms in southern Iowa back when every town had a traveling team. In one game it was getting to the point of an all out brawl and the referees had lost total control, when suddenly the power went out in the stadium (the janitor pulled the plug). They got on the bus and high tailed it out of town before a fight broke out. Back then the gym walls would be right at the out of bounds line and it wasn't uncommon for several players to get slammed off of a wall or two during the course of a game.

Sorry but you cant fix stupid. If youre in a wheelchair you should know "running" and "jumping" with 5,000 students is a bad idea.

The thing that gets me, is in this particular game, Duke was completely shielded from the fans by a row of security
