Iowa @ Nebraska Game Could be Postponed Due to Storm

HuskerOnline.com - Snowstorm has Thursday's game vs. Iowa in doubt

I don't think it's an issue for Iowa to get there, as they would leave sometime on Wednesday and get there before the storm gets bad. But it could be an issue for officials to get there and in general just difficult for fans to get to the game.

Iowa and Nebraska have their "bye" this weekend. On a side note, incredibly the Big Ten has ZERO games scheduled for Saturday. I would wager that has never happened in the last 50 years. And it drives me crazy with all these Sunday game.

Back on point, it would seem very logical to postpone the game until Saturday and if the game was on BTN, would probably not be an issue. But it's on ESPN2 and I doubt ESPN wants to fit this game in on a busy Saturday. Iowa doesn't play again until Wednesday Feb. 27th, but Nebraska plays on Tuesday. If there was ever a time to postpone a game, this would be it as both schedules are fairly wide open.

I would rather they move it up to Wednesday than push it back to Saturday.

It'll get played. Both teams are open this weekend because they both have conference byes. So it'll either get moved up to Wednesday or pushed back to the weekend. Assuming it does get moved.

And for the record, I can't remember the last time a storm was projected to drop 15-20 inches of snow.

As long as Iowa can make it there, the game will be played. I don't think they planned on having anyone attend anyway.

I don't remember the last time a game was cancelled because of weather. Is that an option?

Safety of players and fans first. I dont remember details but last delayed game I can recall was 1979. I think it was Indiana and Iowa to play in IC. I recall IOwa won handily

So imported SteveL, what about this thread made you post your fourth time in four years? It just seems an odd topic to draw out a long time lurker.

Feel free to post more often.

I think it is to our advantage to play the game as scheduled. In fact, I wish we could play it today.

The OP made a good point in saying it could be difficult to get the officials there. Most are probably working a game the night before or have day jobs that would make it tough.

The Iowa team and coaches would arrive Wednesday.

I imagine there are a few husker boosters who have an officiating certificate who could help out in a pinch.

They couldn't be worse than Hightower or Burr.

Sec, I am guessing they have reserves or something and that the conference will make necessary arrangements. This isn't an AAU tournament, this is B1G basketball. Come on bratha!

I have no idea why you bolded and underlined the part of my comment about Iowa arriving on Wednesday.

Im sure there arent "reserve officials" on call for college basketball games.

And how many of those "reserve officials", if they existed, would be able to make it to Lincoln, Nebraska in a blizzard on short notice.

Its not like Jim Delany is just going to call up some high division high school refs to fill in.

Come on, brah.

They have moved on from Greek mythology to Star Trek mythology, apparently

Ok, lets think about this for a second and use logic. Ok so YOU said that Iowa would leave early but yet they wouldn't ensure that they have officials? Iowa would leave for a basketball game days ahead of time pending a huge snow storm but the conference wouldn't make sure that officials would be able to make it?

Iowa would arrive Wednesday for a Thursday game if it was going to be 80 degrees and sunny, the blizzard isnt the reason the Hawks would arrive on Wednesday.

This would give the conference a couple days to find refs if they moved the game to Wednesday, instead of a few hours.

If they play the game in front of a more or less empty arena due to the weather, that's fine by me. Beats having a more hostile environment to play in. This game worries me.

This.

But Nebby isn't a hostile environment, usually, right?
