Where the FBS signees come from

First, it's more than KF's salary. It's the new practice facility, weight room etc. We're putting up these new buildings to compete with other schools shiny new buildings. KF's salary is part of the whole investment of the program.

At the end of the day it doesn't make a hill of beans difference to me if KF is paid $100,000/yr or $10 mill/yr. But typically when a program pays the kind of money Iowa is paying it is a signal to the world that we are playing to win and not we're playing for mid-pack. That's why I feel it's significant. In no way does it make sense to pay top dollar then pretend your okay with mid-pack results.

College football is a business, we covered that. Ferentz won in the past so he deserved his pay increases (maybe not so much now, which we both agree). But now that the profit continues to go up along with the loses are going up as well so you think that the school should fire Ferentz or cut the money they pump into the program?

I am starting to think you don't understand how business works.

People want to believe that top talent from across the country want to play at Iowa over OSU, USC, Oregon and SEC teams, not gonna happen.

It isn't that KF and staff aren't selling the Iowa program "good enough" but it is a hard sell and it is equally as hard for the homers out there to accept it.

I personally think Iowa can do better at recruiting in which players they recruit but to me that comes down to evaluation system. I know it probably isn't that easy but something seems to be wrong. Maybe it is KF and staff, maybe it isn't, who knows.

The perception I have is that it become very apparrent that KF and staff "relaxed" on recruiting energy and were simply getting beat for recruits. We shall see if all of the staff changes (rumored or completed) will energize recruiting. They sure better be energized; with all of the recruiting impediments now being removed by the NCAA.

I am starting to think you don't understand how business works.

First, profits won't continue to go up if this mediocrity continues.

Second, I don't think its correct to assume there is a direct correlation between the amount of money spent on the program (salaries and facilities) and how much money a program generates. I'd argue it is possible this program could generate the same amount of revenue while spending less on salaries and facilities.

Bingo! But that is an "IF" though too.

You cut salaries (mainly KF because we all know assistants don't make jack), and he leaves we are back in the same argument as before, what's the risk that Iowa is better off or worse off.

I have no problem spending the money. But with that money should come better than mediocre expectations. My issue is spending top dollars then shrug our shoulders and say "We're just Iowa". It's sends a conflicting message.

I agree that Nebraska has overcome the geographical recruiting disadvantages that Iowa hasn't, however their tradition of winning is much higher than Iowa's. That might have to do with some of their success.

Perhaps, although that was a long time ago. Since 1999, Nebraska has the same number of BCS bowl appearances as Iowa, and hasn't played in one since 2002.
