Does 21-10 (10-8) Get Us In?

I will be very surprised if we don't make it at 10-8. It means we have won 7 of our last 8...per your projections. Included in those 10 wins will be victories over Minnesota, Purdue and Illinois...not great wins but decent wins. It almost certainly puts us in the top 7 in the conference...meaning a probable win over NW, Nebraska or Penn State in the 1st round of the BTT. It also means we will probably avoid Michigan in the 2nd round of the BTT...the one team that has completely dominated us this year in conference play.

I love your optimism but did you watch the last 2 games? If Iowa shoots like this against anybody left on the schedule and they will probably lose. They desperately need someone to step up like Gatens did last year, right now they have no go to player when they need someone to knock down a shot.

I have always been an Iowa basketball fan first. Football is a distant second for me. I watched Lute's teams, Raveling's teams, Davis' teams, Alford's teams and Lickliter's teams (definitely the toughest to watch). I have watched Fran's teams including the last 2 games.

There's no quit in this coach or this team. They play like absolute garbage and are still in games. My wife and son banned me from speaking during the latter stages of Sunday's game...apparently I was yelling and/or screaming constantly. I adhered to the ban for about 2 plays. There's a reason our schedule was the toughest in the country in January. The 2 teams that just beat us are known for their defense. The game at NW (where we had lost 5 in a row I believe) was the closest thing to a breather during this 7 game stretch.

Now it gets easier. Guys can regain some confidence, improve their games, etc. I thought we would be better than 2-5...no doubt. I think we should be. I also know we lost 2 close home games to very good teams without key players...Basabe and Marble. I don't think we will lose another home game...no one as good as those 2 are coming to town. I certainly think we can take Penn State and Nebraska on the road. We did beat NW by 20. Heck, I still think there's a good chance we are going to win at Wisconsin and go 11-7.

The last 2 games were hard to take but we always knew the last half of the schedule is where it gets easier. You're right. I'm pretty optimistic.

10-8 (21-10) might get us in, but I would need to see at least two wins in the BTT (23-11) to feel confident on Selection Sunday.

Duhhh 21-10 and 10-8 gets Iowa in every time since Sunday and yesterday and.... in March.

This doesn't account for at least 2 Big Ten Tourney wins that are guarantees.

#7 seed.. sweet sixteen here comes Iowa.

> Not saying this happens just that if it happens and we finish 21-10 (10-8) would that be enough to make it into the tournament?

Oh, I think I my comprehension is better than the average product of an Iowa public school education. You're the one raising the possibility that Iowa goes 10-8 in the conference. Even with the best meds, that scenario is simply not realistic. My point stands.

Obviously your comprehension is poor because what you quoted says, "Not saying this would happen..." Never in my post did I predict that Iowa will go 21-10. I asked if that was the record we finished with would that be enough to make the tournament. Sorry, but you're wrong.

I do hope Iowa can put a run together and make it to the tournament. I wouldn't bet my life savings on it but it doesn't cost anything to hope for it. Try being an optimist for once. Life is much more enjoyable.

Yeah, I became a Hawkeye fan because of the basketball team. Lute's final four run was when I got hooked. Don't get me wrong I am still optimistic about this basketball team but I see a young team without a go to person when they need someone to knock down a shot. Marble has been thrust into that role and so far he has not answered the bell, White is not the answer either. When I see a team go that cold from the perimeter, wide open shots, 2 games in a row that tells us that this team is not ready for that next step. Could you imagine Iowa reaching the NCAA tournament and going cold like that in the first round?

Cold like that...embarrassing to say the least. I'm still hopeful we start shooting better and building confidence as the schedule gets easier. If we do go 10-8 and win 7 of the last 8 I think we carry that confidence into the BTT and the NCAA tournament. Have a good one and let's hope for the best. I'm pretty sure we agree that things are going to be different/better the next couple of years...a lot more fun and reduced game stress.
