At some point McCaffrey and this team need to figure some things out. Let's start with finishing the first half. It is a given there will be a complete meltdown at the 6:00 mark in the first half. Tonight's debacle was a new low, giving up what, 6 points in 20 seconds? It's like someone pushes a button and every guy on the team loses their freaking mind. Next we have the shooters who cannot shoot. Without being too ghoulish here, how has McCaffrey assembled a team of non shooters like this? For a coach who wants to run and score points, I would think it would start with recruiting guys who fit that type of system. We maybe have 2 guys capable of finishing in transition ( by this I mean not going weak to the hoop and getting blocked). I am sure someone tracks this, but we have to be leading the big ten in weak a%% layups getting blocked. Woodbury and Olaseni need to go to the hoop with intent and White needs to pull up and take a jumper or go hard, not the one-footed angling away from the basket hook shots he has been implementing of late. I know Woodbury is a 4.0 and a freshman, but two fouls in 3 minutes was really poor basketball IQ. As much as I like McCaffrey's passion, I think he has failed on the recruiting front to assemble a team capable of competing in the big ten. I do not see the 3 guys next year doing much to help us in key areas like quickness, size, toughness and individual scoring ability. I know some will bash me and use "they are freshman" excuse, but watch Purdue on Sunday and tell me that you can't expect improvement from freshman during the season.
