If there were a moral victory tournament, we would be in

At some point McCaffrey and this team need to figure some things out. Let's start with finishing the first half. It is a given there will be a complete meltdown at the 6:00 mark in the first half. Tonight's debacle was a new low, giving up what, 6 points in 20 seconds? It's like someone pushes a button and every guy on the team loses their freaking mind. Next we have the shooters who cannot shoot. Without being too ghoulish here, how has McCaffrey assembled a team of non shooters like this? For a coach who wants to run and score points, I would think it would start with recruiting guys who fit that type of system. We maybe have 2 guys capable of finishing in transition ( by this I mean not going weak to the hoop and getting blocked). I am sure someone tracks this, but we have to be leading the big ten in weak a%% layups getting blocked. Woodbury and Olaseni need to go to the hoop with intent and White needs to pull up and take a jumper or go hard, not the one-footed angling away from the basket hook shots he has been implementing of late. I know Woodbury is a 4.0 and a freshman, but two fouls in 3 minutes was really poor basketball IQ. As much as I like McCaffrey's passion, I think he has failed on the recruiting front to assemble a team capable of competing in the big ten. I do not see the 3 guys next year doing much to help us in key areas like quickness, size, toughness and individual scoring ability. I know some will bash me and use "they are freshman" excuse, but watch Purdue on Sunday and tell me that you can't expect improvement from freshman during the season.

Clemmons and Gesell have improved over the course of the season. Woodbury hasn't. But a lot of the time, guards have much quicker learning curves than bigs, unless that big is extremely gifted. Woodbury is not extremely gifted, but that doesn't mean he won't be a very good play eventually. He's just not going to be the super freshman.

I do think the end of half meltdowns will fade into the rearview mirror, if their second half response tonight (compared to the Michigan game) is any indication.

NIT, CIT, CBI, there's more than one moral victory tournament.

Seriously though, this game doesn't hurt Iowa. They now start their real season.

This doesn't hurt at all, but home becomes more important and a good road win is really important.

This team is a year away.... think we all wanted this year to be the year. We gotta have a little patience.

Hey guys Ill some up TedNugent's every post for you.

Fran sucks...y don't he recruit moar blue chip athaletes who are better at basketball??

Ted, thanks for starting this thread again...I have missed it...great analysis on recruiting. Fran has no clue thanks for noticing.

How many more times are you going to bring up recruiting and you aren't even right, but it is okay, you will get over it.

This is truly one of the worst posts of all time.

Gesell, Clemmons and Woodbury are great recruits. Basabi has been a great recruit. Uthoff will be terrific.

What in the hell are you talking about?

Apparently you have never read topics by Ted...

Fran is a great recruiter and you heard of sarcasm? Shouldn't need a smiley with how thick it was.

I said I didn't care mother****er! Can't you read?!

Intelligent post. My mom's been gone a long time.

Other than getting on a few about the troll name calling the worst thing I've done was mention a realistic part of AW's game early on against the nc teams and a few couldn't handle it. Looks like I was pretty spot on, unless less playing time isn't an indicator.
