McCabe's diving save

Did anyone else notice this? One of the best saves I have ever seen and he got robbed by the refs. It looked like it was impossible to get to the ball but he somehow did. I think the refs gave up on the play before it was over and that's why they called it out. Too bad for him because it could have made the top ten.

Blasted refs shafted us once again.....

It was an excellent hustle play by Zach and was typical of the effort by the Hawks last night. We were on......

:)

Looked good to me as well. And yes, I think the refs blew an early whistle cause they just assumed it couldn't be saved.

How did Iowa win with the refs so tilted towards Wisconsin, speaks volumes to Iowa's will to win.

Refs suck and Iowa was playing 5 on 8 yesterday.

Always picking on Zach, he can never catch any break, what a joke.

;)

On the other hand, I think we caught a break at the end of the game when UW was going for a held ball with RDM and it was called a foul. Looked like a held ball to me.

I was thinking the same thing. Wisconsin would have had a chance to tie the game had they called that right.

It definitely looked like a good save to me. That's why I wouldn't be a good ref. I would have given him the benefit of the doubt simply for the tremendous effort. It was awesome.

Totally agree adn I mentioned this in the game day thread.

I hate it when refs "assume" they see something. Either you see it or not and they dont have to blow the early quick whistle.

It probably was a held ball but that is the penalty sometimes for being behind with 20 seconds to play.

The ref may have thought the UW player bodied up on marble and bumped him. The call might not have been the reach in.

I dont watch much NBA but that has always been a plus in that the refs will motion what they are calling, the body bump, the hold, etc.

But lets face it, B1G refs are pretty bad and especially inconsistent.

I thought it was a foul. The Vadger player was reaching around RDM body just to grab the ball, as he faced away from the defenders. Sure he got his hands on the ball, but you can't very well reach around a player without contacting the body, and thereby fouling.

Yet lots of those calls are subjective, and depends on where the ref is standing. The calls that bother me the most is when the ref doesn't have a good view, or is out of position, and just assume a foul occurs, without really seeing it, and blows the whistle.

IMO, both calls are prime examples of anticipation whistles. The ref anticipated the call and blew the whistle too early.
It was a tremendous hustle play by Zac and I wish he would've been rewarded for it.
The reach in call was also anticipated as everyone expected a foul, and (IIRC) the whistle came from the ref behind the play.

Since this turned into a bad officiating thread I just as well mention the time the ball clearly went out on them but they gave them the ball and the time White got a steal then got run over and they gave them the ball.

He not only got run over but an elbow or knew to the ribs. That was alot of physical activity in mid court for no foul to be called.

The anticipation whistle is terrible as is the assumed whistle. I reffed a long time ago and I was guilty of the seldom assumed whistle especially when a player would really whack down with his arm to block a shot. It is so easy to see all that motion and hear what might be a slap on all ball and think contact was made.

Oh by the way was it the same ref who just loved to call palming/carrying the ball in that game?
