Iowa's Clark Competes With The Best As Freshman - KCRG

Both Clark and Brooks had let downs on the second day of Midlands. Clark shouldn't have lose his semi-final match and reportedly let up on the edge resulting in the winning points (or losing points depending on your perspective). Brooks beat the #7 and #9 seeded wrestlers and lost the 8th place match convincingly to a guy he beat earlier in the tourney. Chalk it up to being freshmen I guess.

I never said that. i think he'll be in the running for a national title for sure next year. The statement that "there is no doubt he will be better than McD" at this point, is laughable. to say there is no doubt a kid who has yet to wrestle a varsity match will be better than a probably 4 time finalist and 3x champ is just stupid. lets just slow down is all i'm saying.

I love it when people get all bent out of shape because someone has a different opinion than they do.

I also don't understand how you can consider my opinion "stupid" when as you said "a kid who has yet to wrestle a varsity match" took a "probably 4 time finalist and 3x champ" and almost beat him. Then, Clark went out and beat the #2 ranked kid and would have taken 3rd at Midlands if not for a rookie mistake.

As I said before. There is no doubt in my mind that if Clark stays in the wrestling room and gets better he will be better than McD.

At this point the biggest difference between clark next year and mcd's freshmen year is expectations. Mcd as a freshman, everyone knew he was good, but he just kept surpassing expectations. Its fair to say now that it will be impossible for clark to surpass expectations.

You have the right to your opinion, as do I. I happen to think your opinion is putting the cart waaaay in front of the horse and I would bet most would agree.
so you must also be so certain that Megaludis is absolutely going to be better than McD as well. He had an even better true freshman year than Clark including two very close matches w/ McD. right?

I'm obviously not in the minority thinking that he's going to be a great wrestler considering he was listed as the top contender at Midlands as a true freshman.

I also don't believe that Megaludis will be a better wrestler than McD. Megaludis was handled by wrestlers he should have beaten last year.

Clark wrestles McD day in and day out. He has a chance to learn from the best wrestler in the nation at his weight class. That is just another reason why I am confident in saying what I said.

Interesting. So he's def not as good as mcd then. Not now at least. Mcd doesn't lose twice at midlands I wouldn't think. Thanks for updates.

Comparing apples to apples.

Clark is a true Freshman. McD was a true freshman in 2008-2009 going 22-8 competing at 133 unattatched. Placed first at Kaufman Brand Open. Placed second at Brand, Duhawk, and Grand View Opens. Placed 3rd at Harold Nichols Open and 5th at UNI Open. Also wrestled at Midlands. No mention of his record at that tournament for that year. Apparently didn't place or would be mentioned. Info from Hawkeye Official site.

I would say that Clark is ahead of McD's true freshman year results even though there have been fewer Tournaments for him to participate in yet. But what McD did his RFr. year going 37-1 and NCAA Champ is still a bit far out of the picture to realistically envision Clark making that much progress. Could happen though. Could happen.

Kwood - here's the bracket from McD's true freshman year. Unfortunately it only include the championship side so I don't know what happened after he went 1-1 on the front side (other than he didn't place). He wrestled 133 his entire freshman campaign including Midlands.
