USAF, fulsaas, or anyone else...
Any info on late signings yet this season (aside from the 157 you alluded to) or walk ons?

Next year
weights the coaches are targeting or is it kid specific and they'll find a weight for them later?
How many kids you think we'll be signed?

Always a tough speculation when amounts of $$$ people are getting are not public knowledge but I'm board already.

On a related not the Gophers signed their NINTH recruit today! WOW.

I'm not an insider or anything but here are some names I would like to see the Hawks go after...

Evan Silver 112 NJ (Blair kid)
Jesse Thielke 125 WI
Destin McCaulley 152 MN
Jahwon Akui 171 IL
Morgan McIntosh 189 CA

I guess you could call this a "wish list", if we could get TWO off this list, I would be thrilled.

I've got a ton of wish list names as well. Part of the reason I wondered if we were looking at certain weights or if it was a bout the kids and finding weights later. Don't know much on Akui. Thielke's going to be tough to get out of WI IMO.

Akui is a pretty darn good RB as well, so it will be interesting to see what he does.

I think we have a very realistic chance with McCaulley.

I'm intrigued by Silver because he could be one of those 4 year 125 guys, and he's from the same program as 2010 recruit Mike Evans.

Like I said, I'm sure USF and Ful know a lot more about who were going after than me.

I think it's a good shot with McC as well but I do know a more than 1 big ten school feels good about him as well.

I agree on the Silver. Don't know a lot about him, but I like the idea of getting smaller guys who can grow into the spot rather than cut to it.

I don't think that there will be much more money spent this year as they already have a very solid class and not as many glaring needs. If they can land the 57 pounder that may cost a little money but they won't spend a ton.

I suspect that next year they will be pretty selective as well and not spend a ton of money. I think that some of the money will be saved for the class of 2012 as it should be a good one.

You listed some good names there but I agree that it will be VERY hard to get him out of WI. I also expect that Akui may play football in college and I'm not sure that he's an Iowa guy anyway.

As far as big name recruits go I think that Morgan McIntosh has to be priority #1!!! This kid is a monster and would fit perfectly in the Iowa room no matter what weight he was at. It just so happens that he is also at the most needed weight that Iowa will have. Obviously Destin McCauley could be priority #1b but I think that most people feel pretty good about our chances with him already. There will definitely be some competition for his services but I think that he wants to be a Hawk if he gets the chance.

A few other national targets for next year to keep an eye on include:
Jade Rauser, 119, MT
Val Rauser, 119, MT
Jake Waste, 160, MN
Kris Klapprodt, 171, SD
Logan Storley, 171, SD

Some in state kids:
Bo Schlosser, 135, Bettendorf
Tanner Hiatt, 140, Ballard
Cody Caldwell, 145, WSR
Brody Grothus, 145, Dav Assumption
Tanner Weatherman, 152, Ballard
Cody Krumweide, 215-285, WSR - Not sure that he's a high D1 wrestler yet and not sure he makes 197 and Iowa fairly deep at HWT right now.
Austin Blythe, HWT, Williamsburg - Long shot as he'll most likely play football

Just a few names to keep an eye on and there will be plenty more...

I just asked my apple valley "source" about Waste today. Of course I haven't heard back from him but he intrigues me a bit.

Saving some money for 2012 might be a good idea.

The 2012 in state class is pretty loaded.

Cory Clark
John Meeks
Eric Devos
Gradey Gambrall
Justin Koethe

I think its a dang near lock Blythe plays football for the Iowa Hawkeyes. It was either right before or right after the state tourney this year the press citizen had a write up on him and it sounded like football/recruiting things took up a lot of the first half or so of wrestling season and he wasnt focused at all on wrestling, almost to the point of not doing it anymore. Blythe at 75% focused is good enough to beat 98% of Hwt's in Iowa...and the 2% that are good enough did beat him until he refocused on the season and got serious and as we all know he beat both those kids in the state tourney to win the title. I'd be bummed normally about this but we have Telford coming who looks like a great prospect.....I hadnt head much of him before he committed an now it looks like hes a great talent so I think we'll be good to go at Hwt

With the guys in the room and the new recruits coming in, it looks like most weights are pretty well covered except 197 for the future. Is this where you project McIntosh to be at in college? He looks pretty well muscled up and stocky right now. Not sure what his walking around weight is, but looks like 197 might be a bit of a stretch for him. Agree that he should be top priority and he could probably claim whatever weight he wanted to wrestle at.

Another guy i hope that maybe they would look at is Connor Medbery out of Loveland Co. He is a 215 pounder and pinned his way to another state title this year including a 30 sec. pin in the finals. Depending on which publication you look at, he is also considered a 2 - 3 star football recruit as a running back. I have relatives that have kids in school there and they say he is an animal.

215 is a tough weight to project for college. He go HWT or able to make the cut? Have the relatives said if he prefers one sport to the other?

Relatives say to their knowlege has not committed one way or another, he is a good fb player, but clearly a better wrestler.
