Iowa has one final tuneup before B1G season - From The Stands by Troy Hyde - TimesRepublican.com | News, Sports, Jobs, Community info - Times Republican

From article:

“I never look at RPI; it doesn’t do you any good,â€￾ Iowa coach Fran McCaffery said. “It makes no sense for me to think about RPI. The No. 1 component in RPI is wins. If you keep winning, your RPI is going to be in good shape and it will go up. If you lose, and to a team that doesn’t have a high RPI, that isn’t going to help you. All I try to do is get our team to keep winning and the RPI will take care of itself.â€￾

The best win of the season came against Iowa State, which has an RPI of 55. Central Michigan and Western Kentucky are currently at 70 and 74, respectively, while the two losses came against Wichita State (24th in RPI) and Virginia Tech (168th in RPI).

I am not accepting Central Michigan as one of our best wins. Their RPI being in the 70's is a sign of the flaws of RPI.

how? he simply is telling the truth
the rpi and the Pomeroy don't make much sense, the other day Iowa was rated 41st today Iowa dropped to 45th, and teams like Belmont, St. Mary's and Middle Tennessee in the top 40

Well of course they don't make sense to you, because you wouldn't know sense if it beat you in the head with a wrench.

Judging our best wins before we have played a B1G game is one of the flaws of your post.

How does this make any sense? Why would I judge games we haven't played yet when talking about games that have already been played?

I think the flaw is trying to analyze any Iowa win or loss at this point of the year. It is so early in the year and who knows how any of the non conference teams Iowa played will look come late February. Who will be better in the Valley UNI or WSU? UNI could be a decent win but they might be a 4th place Valley team and not sniff the NCAA.

It's just so early I can not say much about the teams Iowa has played. It's not like they have played an elite team.

You can analyze who they have played and defeated up to this point. Weather you find that meaningful or interesting is your own personal preference.

Agree.... Of course it needs to be analyzed but it's hard to draw a ton of conclusions.
