What 3 Things, Has KF Said/Done In The Last 6 Months That Make You Believe '13 > '12?

I liked it when he said "this isn't a dog crap football team." That was encouraging.

2012 didn't give me many things to look forward to for next year. The one thing that does give some optimism is that Kirk Ferentz has been pretty good at developing three star talent pretty well. I didn't care for the offensive game plan and the lack of playmakers but I'm hoping we start seeing the development of players again and hopefully make a bowl game next year.

Stick around!! lol Where do you see 4 wins coming in 2013??

Still no hard answer to the original question?? Can't be that hard, can it you KF @ All Costs guys???!

Missouri St., W. Michigan, Minnesota and THE BIG 10 CHAMPIONSHIP GAME!

Yeah, he used the term dog crap. When was the last time you heard that? That's out of the box change type thinking. Then he back handed a reporter. I like the new kf. It's what we all wanted.

Re: What 3 Things, Has KF Said/Done In The Last 6 Months That Make You Believe '13 >

It's going to be tough for next year to top this season but that is more a product of Kurt's success than anything else. Look at what all we accomplished this season:

1. Handed a BCS team their only loss of the season on a nuetral field.
2. Easily defeated perennial FCS power UNI
3. Recaptured Floyd of Rosedale
4. Beat a preseason top 10 team on the road in an absolutely classic game.

That's a lot of accomplishments for one season.

Umm...UNI was a 1 possession game in the 4th....

Not to mention the premise that easily defeating any FCS school is an accomplishment. I hope hf33 is just really good at sarcasm.

I think our 2009 Orange Bowl Champion team would disagree. Why don't you tell this to Adrian Clayborn in person.

Re: What 3 Things, Has KF Said/Done In The Last 6 Months That Make You Believe '13 >

Kirk never says anything but I'll give you a few things I'm hanging my hat on...

1. Returning offensive lineman who looked impressive when healthy plus added quality depth there. (Center is a ? though)
2. Multiple young receivers with some speed who've had a lot of reps with whichever qb wins the job competing.
3. There'll be an actual qb competition in the off season.
4. DL will be inexperienced but will be receiving an influx of athleticism and size that was lacking past 2 years.
5. Team will be able to work on improving the passing game rather than learning a new system.

I'm not pooh-poohing anything. I think AC would agree with me that that was nearly that team's most embarassing moment. If we had beaten UNI 34-7 that year, I don't think it makes the highlight reel.

Re: What 3 Things, Has KF Said/Done In The Last 6 Months That Make You Believe '13 >

Reasons I believe for next year.

1) KF was more aggressive this year than in the past. Whether it was going for it on 4th down inside the opponents territory more often or running the offense in the las two minutes of halves more often. He has shown the ability to push it more.

2) The retention if GD Greg Davis. At first didn't like this at all. But looking at it again, GDGD had huge successes in TX. Replacing him so early potentially, could've hurt the offense even further. Additionally, if Iowa can add a verticals passing game, it will open up A LOT!!!

3) His history. KF has brought this program back before (and I feel he can do it again). KF is tremendous at developing talent. Especially the o-line. This was an area if strength (before injuries) last year, and could be even better; and deeper.

There is a lot of returning players. Especially on the D. There are several things to be encouraged about.

The biggest one for me would be WHEN we do well next year, we won't have to put up with FredCommachi or mythofferrets. That'll be the bestest!

Re: What 3 Things, Has KF Said/Done In The Last 6 Months That Make You Believe '13 >

If I were to take a serious stab at the questions, I think these would be the top 3 for me;

1. Barring injury we should have a solid OL return in 2013.
2. Strong backfield with Weisman, Rodgers, and addition of Daniels.
3. Offense has one season of new playbook under their belt (i.e. not having to learn a 3rd new system in three years)

Re: What 3 Things, Has KF Said/Done In The Last 6 Months That Make You Believe '13 >

its more than the last 6 months its more like the last 3 seasons,
1st is recruiting, before getting way to many 2* recruits and very few 4* recruits to getting more 4 and 3* recruits.
2nd would be changes made in the coaching staff both in new hires and changes in their responsiblities..
they each have their own way of doing things, no 2 people do it the same way.
3rd would be the improved clock management.

Re: What 3 Things, Has KF Said/Done In The Last 6 Months That Make You Believe '13 >

Herby, I think you misunderstood the OP. It's what HAS KF done over the last the months to make you think things will get better, not what SHOULD he do.

Although, I do agree with the three things you've mentioned.

Re: What 3 Things, Has KF Said/Done In The Last 6 Months That Make You Believe '13 >

Thats not a product of how good UNI is...its a product of how bad Kirk coaches. He plays down to another teams level of talent. He doesn't inspire confidence in any of his players...he instills the fear of making a mistake.

I think our 2009 Orange Bowl Champion team would disagree. Why don't you tell this to Adrian Clayborn in person.

Totally disagree on clock mgmt. KF still has no clue how to use his timeouts. His hawks cant run good hurry up end of half end of game drives, they rarely have. You have to throw past the sticks or get first downs in college to stop the clock.

You have to use your time outs on defense to save time for your offense. Your offense can control the clock without timeouts.

THE END OF THE INDIANA GAME WAS TERRIBLE, INEXCUSABLE, AND NW GAME WASNT MUCH BETTER, ALONG WITH SEVERAL OTHER INSTANCES LAST YEAR, LIKE DELAY OF GAMES AND PENALTIES AFTER TIMEOUTS, INCREDIBLY BAD.

If KF could be a better in game coach and decision maker we could win one or two more games each year and he could have 15 to 30 more career victories.

I agree the recruiting is looking better. I am not sure if the rhabdo incident had anything to do with it but the hawks dont look as big and mean as they used to.

I dont the coaching staff that well but I hope B Ferentz can bring some Patriot type swagger and other new coaches can instill some life.

I would have answered this in a very long, rambling, incoherent response but I honestly don't care anymore.
