Am confused a little on two prevalent comments that keep coming up that seem to be a bit contradictory. 1) Lickliter has to go because he cant recruit big ten type talent.. 2) McCaffrey's first issue is to be sure he prevents current players from leaving.. Can both be true???

So you don't think we need depth. I don't think the worry would be as big if brommer were leaving, but Fuller is probably the biggest piece we currently have on the team.

I remember roughly a year ago sitting at the Vine one night when Gatens and Tucker came in and sat at a table. When I saw them, I painfully realized they represented a third of the team.

I think there is big ten talent on this team but they were used to their abilities. Cully, May, and Gatens can all get to the basket on a dribble drive. Problem was lick wanted them shooting 900 3s a game so if they were at 899 down by 2 and 1 of the 3 mentioned above can drive to the hoop he will say drive then kick out for 3 so they can get to 900. Just the way i see it

Yes both can be true. Lick didn't recruit big time talent, talent that you can be a top 25 team with. He did recruit enough talent that you could at least be competitive and make a run at the NCAA. However he didn't retain enough players ever to see if he could do that which would have been enough for him to keep his job for several more years.

So McCafferty will have two challenges one long term and one short term. Keep current players and recruits because they are going to be better in the short term than the vast majority of players out there still unsigned with maybe one or two exceptions.

In the long term recruit at least a couple players that are an upgrade in talent so we can at least sniff the top 25 again in 3-4 years.

That is why keeping Fuller is so important. Nobody still available will be able to replicate what he did against Big Ten competition next year. We need his rebounding and inside scoring to be respectable next year and start building momentum for the future.
