His fouls per min would say more than his fouls per game on what is going on. If he gets 2.6 in 16+ min then he would foul out before the game ends if he tried to play the whole game.
This scares me, but I agree with herby. McCabe gets called for at least one foul a game (sometimes two) that are never called on other players. Yes, he does make occasional stupid fouls, but when you see what's being allowed to occur out there and you see some of the fouls McCabe gets called for, you just have to shake your head in wonder.
And I thought herby's statement was well, ignorant...
McCabe does not get phantom calls as much as some want to believe. McCabe would rather try and get a charging foul when a ref hasn't called one the whole night rather than contest a shot and get a real foul without the chance of a three point play, or is it the fact that he simply cannot contest a shot because of his limited ability to actually move his feet?
Here is the thing, McCabe gets really dumb fouls, partly because of his ability and partly because of his recklessness. It is funny how people talk and discuss how hard he plays and he is tough and he isn't afraid to mix it up...so what? When it has little to no impact on a game most of the time what advantage does it give Iowa. I am sorry, but as the talent has gotten better Zach is one of two guys that are the odd men out, I can't say Olaseni is one of them as he hasn't really played significant minutes in his career yet. Talk about all the "garbage" plays that he makes, which are not all that many, it is significant when he does them because there isn't a whole lot of other stuff to talk about with him.
There was a time when I thought he would be a great mismatch for Iowa coming off the bench, but I am not sure what he provides anymore at this point.
Look, Iowa has recruited better players than McCabe, it is okay to say that, it really is. When you look at McCabe vs Basabe, the guy that makes more of an impact on a game when they play well is Basabe, just look at the history. White is a better player than McCabe, he does more things and plays hard, but doesn't put himself in bad defensive spots to get fouls.
I am done reading drivel about refs and McCabe, it is a guy that is simply terrible defensively...plain and simple. Seriously, what things can you say he does well or really well? If you can only come up with hustle then, I am not sure what else to say.

This. And this goes for Basabe and probably Ogelsby too. It's not a bad thing that we are recruiting over upperclassmen, it's a good thing. We want to keep bringing a higher level of players.
Who do we have on the team that even remotely fills the roles Basabe and Oglesby do? We have not recruited over them.

Basabe's minutes have went down each year, Ogelsby's minutes are down this year and will continue to dwindle as Clemmons' role grows. And with Jok coming in next year he could take even more of those minutes. Basabe went from a 25 min a game starter, to an 18 mpg reserve and this is only going to go down next year with Uthoff coming in. How in the world have they not been recruited over?
Because I think we're thinking of it in different terms. Basabe is playing less because of more depth at the 4 with Aaron White and now McCabe sliding over but the role Basabe plays running the floor, rebounding, blocking shots, being the garbage man and his athleticism and bounce is something the other bigs don't have therefore we need Basabe. Now we just have different kinds of players as compared to Melsahn's freshman year with McCabe more of a banger/ 3pt shooter, White more of a slasher/scorer and Basabe is the 3rd kind of 4 man we have, the athletic shot blocker/rebounder.
None of the recruits McCaffery has brought in fill that role better than Basabe therefore Mel hasn't been recruited over.
P.S. same thing with Oglesby. He's playing less because we have more different kinds of guards we can use now but none are the 3pt shooter Oglesby is so his role has not been recruited over yet either.
They're losing minutes to different (better) players. They're being recruited over. Which is a good thing.

as for Oglesby he is 2-7 from 2 for 28.5% and 13-43 for 33% and 7-10 from the line.
Clemmons at the moment is the only player in DBL DIGIT minutes is less than Oglesby. at 15.3 mpg to Oglesby 15.6 mpg. its Oglesby minutes that are in danger with Gesell spending more time at the 2 and Clemmons at the PG spot
But we hear that Josh is shooting 100% from beyond the arc in practice, so don't you mean that his minutes should be increasing?
At this point Gesell and Clemmons should absorb the majority of Oglesby's minutes. It's as simple as that.
I just find it odd that you totally discount Frans reporting on Josh's practice performance while being so insistent that since gabe is an all world practice player he needs more minutes. Since you're on the inside, why don't you just set Fran straight instead of telling us peons what should be done?100%? Really? hmmmmm. Havent heard about that one yet Siouxboy.
