Why do we do this? There isn't a read... It's a straight dive. Ruddock hasn't kept it yet. I don't want him to start either. I don't want the defense to get shot on our brain surgeon QB. He isn't built for the pounding.

Ruddock is a threat under center either handing to Weisman or play action off of that throwing down field.

He can scramble as needed on broken plays, get what he can get and slide or run out of bounds but to act as a defacto RB is crazy with what he means to this offense and his body type.

If he makes the correct read and is wide open to run the ball then he should run it.

Slide to avoid contact if need be but sometimes it looks like he could easily run for 10 yards or more.

creating tendencies for other team to notice. guaranteed this is being done for a reason - all teams will crash the runner from this point on - likely to leave, at the very least, a wide open channel to run, but maybe even more so, a wide open pass opportunity.
