Zero leadership on the offensive side of the ball....

that is a huge piece of the problem. Stanley a great kid with a rocket of an arm, but does not show the on field leadership needed to compete at this level. He should of been screaming at the line giving up all those sacks, dogging the receivers for dropping so many balls, etc. Stanley needs to do what great quarterbacks do and lead.

U blaming the player - s? Shame on you.

There are multiple systemic problems with Iowa football, this is one of them. The coaching staff is a bottom tier type of staff and they continuously perform as such which compounds the circus KF and BF are bringing out each week.

i think the OP's point is a fair point on its face. but i would say that the ferentz way is to not have a qb doing those things. ferentz wants a bunch of robots that just get a play, run it and move on. and also, this kid is in his first year as a starter, he'll get that. and we really don't know what is being said in the huddle. but, i would imagine that an iowa huddle is very rigid and quiet, on purpose.

Yeah. Right.

No. On a milli-second thought. That’s really stupid.
Player-leaders don’t scream at the guys they’re leading.

He, as well as the team takes on the posture and attitude of our piss poor coach. No sense of urgency, 'Oh well get em next week boys, thats football', blah, blah, blah. Clueless, deer in the headlights look. We have one leader on this team. Josey Jewell. Not saying they have to get in anyone's face, but to stand there and chew gum and clap when your punter trots off after booming another 25 yard punt, or your senior punt returner screws up another punt return is just ridiculous. No accountability, nothing.

I agree, Stanley is not instilling the necessary confidence in the huddle, certainly not like C.J. Beathard did when he played at Iowa, especially in the 2015 season. I don't know Nate Stanley at all but he seems to be a soft-spoken, unassuming guy, which is fine, but he needs to take charge of the team when they are on the field.

Confidence is an intangible concept - it's either present or it's not and when it's not present, it's very hard to "fake it". In fact, faking it only erodes the team's play even further because everyone can see that it's phony. Success instills confidence and confidence brings success, that is why the coaching staff needs to carefully plan each game so that the confidence can genuinely grow throughout the year.

Just once in the KF era I would like to hear what they are doing to address blatant shortcomings in the program. I must say I am quite disappointed when KF addresses the fans and reporters like we are too dense to understand the nuances of the game, thus the trite answers we need to execute better, that's football, etc. Doesn't he realize his team is hearing the same canned responses and they are walking away with less confidence in their own coaching staff?

We saw genuine confidence on the field in the OSU game, on both sides of the ball, that was as real as it gets. I certainly understand that game was not what we can expect every game but KF needs to take a close look at what he and his staff are doing to destroy their own players' confidence. We've seen too many examples recently to not warrant his full attention.
