Eric May. I just got to thinking how great of a matchup that would have been. Iowa doesnt really have a defensive specailist right now.

Who do you think has the best defense on the team?
 
Gesell is the best perimeter defender Iowa has. No way he could matchup with Stauskus though.

Marble would probably be the best matchup with Stauskus.

I think Marble is a good matchup. The thing is I dont like my best offensive player on a really hard matchup. Thats just the way my coaches always played things when I was playing. Too much to ask a guy to shut down that type of player and score 20 points.

Problem Iowa has is the only guys close to Stauskus speed are 3-4" shorter than him. You could get Clemmons in there to chase him around but hes going to try and post him up, same with MG. Now if Jok was a little further along that could be a good match up.

Normally I would agree with you here, but with the offensive firepower Iowa has this year they should be able to still put up enough points to win if Marble is limited.

We put up 41 in a half against Minnesota with White and Marble scoring a combined 1 point.
 
We should have gone old school Piston bad boy Jordan defense on him just to wear him down physically (ie let him drive and then have someone anyone in the area beat the hell out of him time after time after time)

Interesting point how you would like to have a player back for a few games or whole season.
 
The best way to take a player like Stauskas out of his game is to attack him on the offensive end, relentlessly. Run him through screens and attack the basket with whoever he is defending. Take his legs away from him or force him to the bench for rest. I also wouldn't have a problem with putting Marble on him defensively, with the intent to sacrifice Marble's offensive production selling out on defending Stauskas. We have other players that can pick up the slack on the offensive end. A lot more than Michigan does.
 
I would like to see a good clean hard foul the next time he gets in the lane...Woodbury since he gets called even when he doesn't foul. Get him with the body...not flagrant. Don't try to hurt him. Let him know he's not in Michigan this time around and nothing is going to come easy.

That, or distract him with back bacon under the scorer's table.

Agree, take Marble and Stauskas away and Iowa wins.
