Year By Year: Whch games stick out the most to you during the Ferentz Era?

I'm getting hyped up for this season watching so many youtube videos I began to think about which games do I think of first for each year good or bad.

1999-The first game-Nebraska @ Iowa-Final Score Nebraska 42 Iowa 7- There wasn't much to remember from this season. Sadly I can't even remember the only win, as I was only 12.
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkNU5SMpucg&feature=related"]‪September 4, 1999 - #5 Nebraska @ Iowa‬‏ - YouTube[/ame]

2000-The Beginning of Ferentz's PSU domination-Iowa @ Penn State-Final Score Iowa 26 Penn State 23-This season involved Ferentz's first Big Ten win, a crushing blow to Northwestern, and Ferentz's first Big Ten road win. I remember the road win the most.

2001-One Handed Heartbreak-Michigan @ Iowa-Final Score Michigan 32 Iowa 26-Up 13 midway through the 3rd things were looking good for a chance at a huge upset then came a long bomb, followed by a rushing TD, followed by a McCann pick, a 3rd and 15 conversion, a 3rd and 6 conversion, and then Marquis Walkers one handed 3rd and Goal TD catch. Puke.
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3PlOSaAop0"]‪2001: Michigan-32 Iowa-26‬‏ - YouTube[/ame]

2002-Purdue is the team I remember most when I think of 2002. Iowa's 31-28 triumph over Purdue was a great game to remember. Blocked XP's, Clark's 95 yard TD, Banks' long run, and then famous Banks to Clark Connection. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmsJLcDthns"]‪2002 Purdue at Iowa Highlights‬‏ - YouTube[/ame] but sadly the thing that sticks out in my mind was, HOLY BUCKEYE! [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=julW9Eroqcw"]‪Holy Buckeye‬‏ - YouTube[/ame] The Orange Bowl was great but I wanted the Rose Bowl.

2003-The Outback without the shady refs-Iowa vs Florida. Iowa's 37-17 win over Florida was a great thing to watch. It really was. Have a look: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4m6Mwht9cn4[/ame]

2004-The Forgotten Man- Clock mismanagement never felt so sweet! When Tate hit Holloway to seal a 30-25 victory over LSU I ran across my livingroom and tackled my mom on the couch with a big hug. I'm sure you remember your exact reaction to that play too! [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdO5YPeT83w"]‪2005 Capital One Bowl Dolphin and Podolak's Radio Call of Hail Mary‬‏ - YouTube[/ame]

2005-National Championship? Pssh try getting by Iowa State first. Iowa State destroyed us 23-3. It was setting the tone for tough to swallow games in a tough to swallow season. In true Cyclone fashion this is the best highlight video ISU could come up with. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tF8OwculTA"]‪Iowa State v Iowa 2005 Montage‬‏ - YouTube[/ame]

2006-Goal Line Stand keeps big match-up afloat-Iowa's 20-13 victory over Syracuse was weird experience, that Jason Manson put us through.
I had just bought a couple of very expensive tickets to watch the Ohio State vs Iowa game under the lights for me and my Mom for the her birthday. Her birthday was the week before. My plan was once Iowa beat Illinois on her birthday to move to 4-0 I would give her the tickets. Welll, we barely got to 2-0, but did thanks to this. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTb2mIIqwHc"]‪Iowa Hawkeyes The Stand‬‏ - YouTube[/ame]

2007-Jake leads us to a bowl game- Iowa's victory over Western Michigan secured their 7th straight bowl game....oh crap! 28-19 Western Michigan. Don't watch this youtube clip it was as lame as the game. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flyoSKNGYC4"]‪Iowa hawkeyes Vs. Western Michigan‬‏ - YouTube[/ame]

2008-I rushed the field, after the clock struck 0:00. Iowa's 24-23 win over Penn State was fabulous. After 3 straight disappointing seas on this game launched us back to bigger and better things. Shonn Greene was amazing as usual and Stanzi showed a little 4th quarter magic and Daniel Murray made a FG and big one! [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOI66MVWkO8&feature=fvsr"]‪Iowa vs. No. 3 Penn State‬‏ - YouTube[/ame]

2009-Dreams crushed when Stanzi's ankle s crushed. Not much to say but this 17-10 loss to Northwestern will forever sting. Also, let me know when you find the hold on BW TD run. ‪Northwestern Wildcats vs. Iowa Hawkeyes - 11/7/09‬‏ - YouTube

2010-Desert Defe...Fake...Fake Punt starts the starts the Late season Collapse. The loss to Arizona stung. But Iowa still could've gone to the Rose Bowl. Then Wisconsin busted out the easy fake punt execution of all time. Iowa became a team that couldn't close all year. Wisconsin's 31-30 win over Iowa ruined what could've been a undefeated Big Ten season and a trip to Pasadena for Iowa. This loss by the Hawkai to the Bajer, ruined this season for Iowa. What are your memories of each season?

November 14th, 2009.

The failure to execute a 2 minute offense against fOSU will always be at the forefront of my mind.

At home Vs Michigan in 2005. Most fun I've ever had at a game, excluding the last few minutes. Loudest crowd I've experienced at Kinnick.

2002 at Michigan. Iowa completely dominated a good Michigan team giving them their worst home loss in decades. Haven't seen an Iowa team with that much firepower on offense since.

No 2002 beatdown at the Big House? I agree with Purdue, that was a classic. 2004 beatdown of OSU at home comes to mind too.

The 2002 Michigan game is the most significant win of the last decade. That game established the fact that Iowa football was back.

09 the first game you think of is northwestern? i always think of 7 getting 6 against MSU. maybe i prefer to remember the positive things before negative things

1999: Kirk remembered my name four months after a brief first meeting. Made an impression on me. He is the master at that.

2000: KSU, first game, Arrowhead...hot (I was there), Bob Sanders breaking the top return man in the nation's ankle on his first ever play at Iowa, a kickoff coverage plan.

2001: Walking behind Kyle McCann, in the bowels of the Alamodome, as Tech players were sitting up against the walls, heads down, depressed after losing, and McCann was whistling 'Deep in the Heart of Texas'...that took a set.

2002: Beating Minnesota..daughter had been born two days earlier and my dad and I watched that game in the waiting room together, our first game watching experience together in well over a decade...also how Iowa fans took over Ft Lauderdale

2003: Pregame Michigan, me telling Deace how physically imposing the Wolverines looked, then Iowa down 14-0 early...then Iowa fights back and Chandler to Ochoa to beat Michigan

2004: Standing on the field when Tate to Holloway took place...one of the three best memories of my life.

2005: Getting robbed on the onsides kick offsides call

2006: Brodell's TD catch and run vs Texas

2007: Iowa allowed 48 sacks

2008: Murray's kick to beat PSU

2009: Beating MSU as time expired

2010: On the field down by the players as they pre-swarmed, waiting to run out...intense.

2002 Michigan was close but the Purdue miracles pulled out by Iowa and Ohio St always stick out in my mind.

Although the 2004 a--whoopin' of tOSU was nice it wasn't even my second choice, that OSU team wasn't that great although their victory over Michigan set up our co-championship clinching win over Wisconsin which comes in second behind LSU.

As for thinking of 09 Northwestern over 09 MSU...Do Cubs fans think of beating the Braves in 03 before they think of losing to the Marlins? In 2005 do the Astros fans think of winning their first NL pennant or Losing in the world series to the white sox? Do patriots fans think of 18-0 or 18-1? Do Bears fans think of Hester's kick return to open the Super Bowl or do they think of losing it? It's up to personal opinion.

When it comes to 07 do you think positive before negative? We were 6-6 so it could go ether way...yeah bad example....anyways the whole 2009 season up until Corey Wooten was magical, but I guess I felt like I had my Magical season in 2002, I wanted the whole damn enchillada and when Wooten came down on that ankle it was ripped away slowly but surely the rest of the afternoon. What a miserable day.

i was in the end zone that slingin dick had his ankle snapped in. i remember saying several times "get up...get up" which of course never happened. i remember having tears in my eyes as i thought of what just happened. yes, that game has a lot of memories for me. however, i'd still put MSU above it. TO ME, nothing more memorable than a last second victory. when his number was called, 7 got 6.

i think i blocked out most of the pain from that day in kinnick in 09. thanks for dredging up the miserable memories. jerk :)

I'm truly sorry for rehashing your bad memories, but look on the bright side the youtube video didn't even embed on the page so you didn't even have to look at those lame purple uniforms while reading. Haha.

2001- Alamo Dome and KF proclaiming that the Hawks are back.

2002- At the Big house, Purdue, NW at home on Senior Day and the O-line running off to be met by Gallery on sideline, @Minny and Hawk fans storming the field and taking goal posts

2003- @Wisconsin- this is one of my all time favorite Iowa games, people forget how good this game was. Home against Michigan and Home against ASU were special

2004- Cap One Bowl obviously. Clinching Big 10 Title at home against Wisky was the most "electric" I have ever felt Kinnick. 6-4. Smashing Ohio State.

2005- First ever blackout and it felt like a funeral when we left the stadium after losing in OT to Michigan. @ NW with Shada and Greenway prematurely celebrating on the sideline.

2006- Gameday for OSU.

2007- Bad memories...Losing in Ames when they never scored a touchdown. Losing at home to Western Michigan on Senior Day.

2008- Penn State at home. Closing the Dome down with a 55-0 beatdown and Greene breaking the single season rushing record.

2009- 7 got 6. Indiana game heroics. The one that sticks out the most for me is @PSU. Just how much the blocked punt changed the momentum and how PSU couldnt do anything right after that. NW and @OSU for bad reasons. BCS win in Orange Bowl.

2010- Wisconsin in the 4th quarter is the loudest I have ever heard Kinnick. Thing I most remember about 2010 is the special teams gaffes and our close losses. Good memory was the Insight Bowl.

2001 Michigan game. A little more Brad Banks and I say we win.2002 Michigan. what a whooping. 2003 ISU. 5 years of embarrassment ends. 2004. OSU total butt kicking.2005 Outback Bowl. thanks for nothing stripes. 2006 Alamo Bowl. Brodell smokes Texas's Thorpe award winner. 2007 Illinois. stroming the field was a bit much. 2008 Minnesota. so long Kinnick North. 2009 Penn State. block punt sinks lions.2010 Wisconsin. fake punt, scoring drive , last possession is a mess.

A lot of memories, but one that stands out to me was Michigan 2002 - Take them to the woodshed! But my real memory of that game was the crowd of about a 1000 people waiting on Wright Bros. Blvd for their plane to return. The spontaneous meet and greet that happened after KF had the buses stop was unforgetable. The state police freaked out as the 500 or so people that were on the North side of the road ran across the street to join the celebration. My seven year old (at the time) son still remembers Bruce Nelson picking him up and saying "How's it going little buddy".

Only Iowa game my Dad went with me too. Purdue 2002. Only Iowa game the In-Laws came to. Michigan 2003. Only game I rushed the field, Wisky 2004. First Bowl Game, Cap One, 2005.

Well, here goes:

1999 - Not alot to remember from this year, but the beatdown by Nebraska is one I remember well. I just knew how far away we were at that point.

2000 - The win against MSU to end the long losing streak, and also kicking the crap out of NW when they were ranked.

2001 - The Alamo Bowl, and unfortunately, laying an egg against ISU the last game of the season. I remember that one being played in November due to 9/11.

2002 - Alot of games here, but my favorites are @Michigan, @PSU and vs. Purdue. The ISU loss unfortunately stings, being the only blemish on an otherwise perfect regular season. And the Orange Bowl game was a let down.

2003 - The Outback Bowl butt-kicking over UF, beating Michigan for a 2nd straight year.

2004 - The win over OSU, and Tate to Holloway of course.

2005 - Hmm... Unfortunately I most remember the heartbreaking losses to NW and Michigan. Oh, and the highway robbery by the refs in the Outback Bowl - who can forget the offsides call on the on-side kick.

2006 - Another season unfortunately where the losses are what I remember most. Losing to OSU in a much hyped prime time game, @Indiana, and at home against NW. I remember bouncing back well in the Alamo Bowl but in a narrow defeat to Texas.

2007 - Western Michigan. Ugh.

2008 - Ruining PSU's dream season, and rolling over Minnesota and S. Carolina to close the season.

2009 - @PSU and ruining their hopes of revenge, the loss @OSU, and the Orange Bowl win.

2010 - This will be the season that "should have been". All the close losses in general where we let 4th quarter leads get away. The bowl win was nice.

2011 - ?

2002-Purdue is the team I remember most when I think of 2002. Iowa's 31-28 triumph over Purdue was a great game to remember. Blocked XP's, Clark's 95 yard TD, Banks' long run, and then famous Banks to Clark Connection. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmsJLcDthns

Ok, I need a little explanation on this... I remember distinctly watching this game at my brother's house that day, and watching ESPN+ with Wayne Larivee:

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXIGXklhQy0"]‪2002 Iowa vs Purdue - 95 Yard Dallas Clark TD‬‏ - YouTube[/ame]

So was this game on both ESPN and local t.v. and ESPN+? I find that odd because usually if a game is on ESPN, it's not on the local channels..

Anyway, I really hated playing Purdue when Joe Tiller coached those guys. There offensive system gave us fits, and we seemed totally unable to stop it..

That ISU game in 2005.. that was an awful game. Losing to those guys 23-3 when we were ranked top 10 was a total kick in the sack. We were pretty well dominated..

1977 Hawkeye, yes the Purdue-Iowa game from 2002 was on both ESPN+ and ESPN. Locally it was on ESPN+ for channels like KGAN and KDSM to pick up. But it was available to the rest of the country on ESPN. Locally ESPN carried alternate programming. I am not sure of the exact reason of that, but I know for sure this was the case.
