Yahoo! Sports: Officials question NFL process for selecting Super Bowl ref

I held off posting this for more than 24 hours due to the issue of diversity that is raised; is it fair to suggest that the NFL selected a referee due to the color of his skin, as some nameless officials apparently have done in conversations with the Yahoo! Sports writer? And yet it does raise the question of how the NFL goes about grading its referees, and whether and why the immediate grades given after a game by a committee of retired referees might be altered or erased by the league "with no explanation."

This has not been a great season for the NFL and its referees, one with more than its share of controversy that apparently will continue up to the Super Bowl.
