Wow what a game

Upcoming offensive line looks pretty good. At least against a dejected Gopher team.
Epenesa looks like an Epenesa. At least from one play.

What a fun game. Hard to say anything other than Gronowski is more than capable.

Phil Parker is a genius.

Wetjen for Heisman. Well, not really, but you know what I mean.

One of the most fun games in a long time. This game reminded me of when we played Ohio State in 2017. Not exact match but the way we came out on fire and never let up until they were dead in the water. Minnesota knew halfway through the first quarter they had no chance in this game.

This isn’t the same team that lost to IsU early.
Yes it is.

That was the typical Iowa vrs Iowa State rivalry game and reports out of Penn State before we played them had the team being down and emotionally flat on the news of their head coach being fired and also knowing their starting QB wouldn't be playing against Iowa.

Let's beat Oregon and break a bad streak, then we can talk about how much this team has improved.

We still haven't beat a Top twenty ranked team since October 9, 2021 when we beat then 4th ranked Penn State 23-20, At that time who would have thought that we would be sitting here today, Saturday, October 24, 2025 having not beat a top twenty team since that game? That's a long time for Iowa to go since beating a top twenty team.

We seriously need to put that steak to bed when we play Oregon. It would be perfect timing also and also put us in conversations as a possible playoff contender. Very, very few would have thought that even as a possibility after we lost to Indiana.

I am sitting here watching the Nebraska vrs Oregon game and honestly the game is closer than what I would expect since the game is at Oregon and also because Nebraska SUCKS.

In the fourth quarter and its only 14-0 with Oregon on top.

Our D wasn’t playing at the level they are now. Most people were ready to throw this season off the cliff after that game and complaining how this years D isn’t close to years past. That was our first passing TD since UMass. Reese has some to do with passing improving. September Iowa is always a better team come late October-November.

It is improvement from the defense or just the quality of the teams we have played? It is devastating for a team to lose their head coach and also their starting QB. Penn State has throttled us with that former head coach in recent years.

Beat Oregon and then we talk about improvement.

This team has clearly taken steps in the right direction since the ISU game. Penn State hasn’t throttled us in recent years. Last year they got us good but you have to go back to 2016 to find a game where PSU got us like that again. Here’s from https://www.winsipedia.com/games/iowa/vs/penn-state:

If you can't see the improvement in this team then you must not be watching. Offense and defense, I see growth every game. Can we beat Oregon? Yes, but I am not counting on it. And it won't alter my thinking that we have improved.

Before the season I said that Iowa State would be a tough game for us because Gronowski had not had the time to jell with the offense and in general, the offense would not be at the top of their game yet. That proved to be the way it played out. And have you seen Indiana play? They are absolutely smoking most of their opponents with the exception of Iowa and Oregon. I think we played Indiana tougher than Oregon did so it gives me hope for our game in two weeks.

And don't tell me that the Penn State team we beat last weekend was awful. They have a TON of talent on that team and I'd love to have that many four and five stars on our team some day. They lost two games they shouldn't have but they were ready to play when they came into Kinnick. They wanted that game bad and it showed. We beat them in spite numerous mistakes that we typically don't make and we were able to overcome them, which has not happened a lot in recent years.

Your all or nothing mindset sets you up for big disappointments. I am pretty happy with the state of our football team right now. If we lose to Oregon, of course I will be disappointed too. But don't try to tell me we haven't improved just because we didn't beat a ranked team.

I was thinking same way. Minny beat down Nebraska last week, we beat down Minny this week. Trying to figure out the contenders from the pretenders!
