Wow we are stacked at RB

Coker, Coe and Canzeri. I know there are others also, but Coe's size, KF says he will be a RB as long as he doesnt get to heavy, Canzeri's speed, kid is wicked fast and Coker has the experience now and as we have seen the ability to lower his shoulder and make you pay.
This team is going to be phyisical from the get go, and if ya wanna go bigger, well we will throw some speed at ya.
I am excited, O-line solid, back field, solid. D well, we will have to wait and see.

I get what you're saying, but unfortunately with Iowa, there is no such thing as being stacked at RB.

Yes, AIRBHG still lurks around every corner but I agree with the OP. All we can do is go get kids and keep our fingers crossed. I LOVE the talent we got at RB and if we can go all year with no catastrophic injuries, we have a shot at something special. KF and Co. are no dummies. They know that most successful teams have at least 2 run threats, sometimes 3 or 4.

The way I see things playing out, we'll enter the season with an RB depth chart of Coker, Johnson, McCall, Coe, Canzeri. I'm really hopeful none of them redshirt, because they have such different skills and given our track record they'll probably have to at least prepare to be #2 at some point next year. Coker should carry the load and be spelled by Johnson. McCall is a tremendous talent and the most stereotypical back on the roster. I see him getting a lot of touches when the game is in hand. Coe is an athletic freak but is also really raw. He could be a red zone machine, either by running guys over or making catches against LBs. Canzeri has "3rd down back" written all over him. Screens, swing passes, and toss sweeps should be his bread and butter. Can't wait.

Got a text from a buddy in the QC. Says Coe is up to 255lbs. If true I venture to say the kid never sees the field as an RB.

If true, you are absolutely correct. I would also say that at least one if not two of these RBs will likely redshirt. Whether or not they keep their redshirts or not is a question that will be answered by injuries. But you have to try and redshirt one or two of them. You are not going to be able to get 3 or 4 RBs every recruiting class. I see Canzeri as the most likely to redshirt.
And at Iowa, there is no such thing as "stacked" at running back.

WHY!?!?!? Why would you say this?

Do you also talk about a perfect game in the 5th inning?

I think McCall is the next lead back at Iowa after Coker. Canzeri is going to be the speed home run guy and coe will be playing defense. That is 100% pure speculation.

Doubt it, unless he put on like 20 lbs after the AAA game. Didn't look anywhere near 255 there. In any event, how would your QC buddy know? Coe isn't from the QC and it's not like he holds public weigh-ins our anything...

Are you trying to hex this team?

Iowa can never have too many running backs.

Way to jinx it, *******. You've just challenged AIRBHG to outdo himself...which, considering he's taken out ALL 3 STARTERS FROM LAST YEAR PERMANENTLY, would be pretty impressive.

I think that you need to redshirt Canzeri, he just isn't big enough yet. If you can red shirt McCall you do that too, but I think he will play out of necessity (don't want the same mistakes as last year) and I also think Coe ends up on D, but I would like to see him get his chance on O.

John Clay was 3 inches shorter and the same weight. I also believe he was .1 or .2 seconds slower in his 40. I don't see anything wrong with giving Coe a shot at Running Back. I feel like his talents would go to waste if he was just a goal line back. I would much rather have him be put on defense where it looks like he could shine also.

Given the way RBs have been devalued in terms of NFL compensation and the short 'shelf life' they have, I'm not sure why an athlete of Coe's caliber would not be excited about a move to DE or LB. Could say the same thing about TEs vs OT as well.

That's a good point.

Although i think there is a certain attitude you need to have to play defense. If he doesn't have that desire to play D i don't think he will succeed. So that's something that he, and the coaches, are going to want to look at as well.

Well first off, KF said in his presser Coe is a RB, he said depending on where he ends up wieght wise that could change, I beleive the kid wants that position, wanted to be recruited for that position and will do all he can to get that position. Mc Call is going to be good but he and Coker are similar angry style runners. Coe is just massive, I could see going for more 4th and 1's with the o line we have and Coe behind it. Canzeri will have to add a few pounds and might not see much play time this year, but will be a totally different kind of threat.
There is no question the loads still on Coker, the rest are going to have to prove they wont put the ball on the ground (they are freshman). I think all these kids have a chance of being very good but in different ways, once they all get some experience and training, Iowa's run game is going to be hard to stop, and lets not forget Vandenberg is no slouch either, so our passing should be ok, not real sure on our recievers, I havent checked them out very well yet.
BTW I dont beleive in curses and such, you make your own luck, and I think with this up and coming class Iowa has done just that.

And how do you know anything about the OP, see the great thing with technology in the 21st century is you can miles and miles away from something or someone and still know or learn stuff.

Also it was brought up at the presser yesterday about Coe weighing 250 lbs and KF said they are using him as a RB as long as he can maintain his weight at 250. Go read the transcript it is right there in black and white.

never asked for this before, but can we please delete this thread.
It's like we're openly taunting the AIRBHG.

I agree. In fact I suspect he is already a tad grouchy that the OP pointed out we have more than one healthy RB.

Somehow a sacrifice must be made to return him to his winter slumber.

Dont' jinx us dude! We have thought this same thing in the past and then lost all of our backs.
