Wow we actually did not have a last second 3 beat us

I thought for sure that is how we would lose the game with them chucking one up on us yet again. And the officials actually made the correct call at the end....despite trying to give the game away again and Minny going all playstation on us. My goodness. But, 3-1 regardless.

We did display our signature D by letting someone drive the length of the court in 4 seconds. Luckily for us, there was only 3 seconds on the clock.

As strange this is going to sound....a very aggravating win for the Hawks (and their fan base)

I did not see the game as I am at work but my good friend was following the game and texted me and said up by two and three seconds left. I texted back that Iowa should full court press and leave Gabe or Woody under the basket and have the other four man on man and not pressure the ball on the inbounds. When he told me they drove the entire court in three seconds I texted back "what the H???" He did say they waved off the basket and we're looking at the replay. I said that is good because they would need clear evidence to overturn the call. Well they won another Big game on the road and that is huge. Gonna start calling them Road Warriors. :)

Iowa was 2-9 last year in games decided by 2 possessions or less. This year they are 3-1 so far, they need to keep that trend of winning these games going.

Would have to agree as no one else seems to stand out.

I would have been fine with White going to the basket and picking up a foul, too. Uthoff took the lead on that and, to his credit, hit the clutch jumper.

Uthoff clutch whole game.

Fran is tired of buzzer-beater 3's. The point was to not let a three off. Pitino knew that and designed a drive to the basket. Of course Fran didn't want it going to the basket but...

Gesell did nice job on last play of game getting in the air before Minny did and force him to go under his arm. That 1/3 second meant a win instead of a tie.

We need to guard the person taking the ball out of bounds. Period. In a situation of less than 5 seconds and with the opponent needing to go the length of the floor there is no reason to leave the inbound pass unguarded. Make that pass harder to throw. Then the player receiving the ball will have a harder time and not just go the length of the floor dribbling.

Not strange at all.

I watched the football team all season. My tolerance level far exceeds 'very aggravating wins for the Hawks.'

What I didn't understand is why we guarded the guy that caught the inbounds pass when he put himself 90 feet from the basket, and let him catch it in the place where he wanted to catch it. When he's under our basket, let him catch the friggin ball! He would have had to have changed direction, taken 3 dribbles and would have had to have taken a shot near 30 feet. As it was, he was closer to his basket with his momentum already near full speed going to his basket so he was able to get to his own basket.

Also, what the heck was Sapp (?) doing when the guy got to the 3-point line? It looked like he was trying to foul him? Certainly didn't look like he was trying to defend him! Holy crap! I was happy we won, but my blood was certainly boiling at that point!

Cannot believe we actually hit one at the end!

Think we have established our go to guy at the end of games now.

yes, Uthoff can be the go to guy but unlike Marble the last couple of years who kept the ball in his hands you have to have the offense still run when Uthoff gets the ball. If he is double teamed should be able to get an easy bucket inside or a wide open jumper by someone else

I don't know if this is the case, but was there a strategy to entice the Gophers to go to the rim with the last shot instead of plugging the lane with a big guy, and giving up the 3 point shot? In other words, apply some defense early, force the player to change direction with his dribble but create the appearance of a path to the rim because time will run out before he gets there, as opposed to packing the lane with a big man and yielding the pull up 3 with plenty of time on the clock? If it was the strategy, it wasn't very well employed early in the play because Mathieu got no resistance until he got to the hoop; however, Gesell coming over did cause Mathieu to double clutch the shot, and that extra move allowed the time to run out. So, it worked. Iowa is 3-1, which is a better start than most (all?) had them at before the conference schedule started. In the end, it's a W, on the road, against a team that is much better than their 0-5 start.
