I don't know if this is the case, but was there a strategy to entice the Gophers to go to the rim with the last shot instead of plugging the lane with a big guy, and giving up the 3 point shot? In other words, apply some defense early, force the player to change direction with his dribble but create the appearance of a path to the rim because time will run out before he gets there, as opposed to packing the lane with a big man and yielding the pull up 3 with plenty of time on the clock? If it was the strategy, it wasn't very well employed early in the play because Mathieu got no resistance until he got to the hoop; however, Gesell coming over did cause Mathieu to double clutch the shot, and that extra move allowed the time to run out. So, it worked. Iowa is 3-1, which is a better start than most (all?) had them at before the conference schedule started. In the end, it's a W, on the road, against a team that is much better than their 0-5 start.
