Came across this press conference yesterday on TV and found it pretty informative.
Some of the things she touched on that Hawk fans might find interesting. The commish attended the Final Four and saw what the attendance was like and what the TV numbers were. She states the WNBA is aware of the popularity of the college game and wants to capitalize on it.
I never heard her mention Iowa or Caitlin Clark but I didn't watch every single minute of the press conference. But she is clearly aware of the Iowa influence. She talks NIL and how it's exploding and that she wants the college stars to bring their brand to the WNBA and keep up that momentum.
Nothing was said about this but my guess is that about 11 months from now there will be widespread speculation on whether CC will announce that she's turning pro and entering the draft. I have heard her say she may come back for that covid year. You think the WNBA wants her to take that extra year? The commish stated in the press conference that where were 15 players this year they thought were draftable that could take a covid year but 10 of the 15 opted to enter the draft.
Do you think there will be any jockeying to get that #1 draft spot next year if CC does enter the draft. I even had a thought that Magic Johnson may have drafted Monica just to put the Sparks in a more favorable light should they end up with that #1 pick. If you were a WNBA GM would you want to draft Caitlin? I would.
Enjoy the press confernce if that's something you like to do. I enjoyed it.
