WKU pounding of LaSalle

It'd be kind of funny if Wichita State was the one opponent of ours that made the Final Four after playing in the Big 10 all year.

WKU lost to Kansas, which probably would've done more for our RPI than Wichita beating La Salle. That is, if the RPI meant anything at this juncture in the season.

WKU pounds LaSalle on the boards 44-23 to win by 14. Wonder what that does for our RPI?

Adds 1 win to Iowa opponent win percentage and then you add LaSalles record to the opponent opponent win percentage. It has as big of an impact to our RPI as UNI beating Bradley in the CIT.

Who the h is WKU? Western Kasas University? Sounds like when Clonies refer to The University of Iowa as EIU. Jack wagons.

Uncle Hawk - I am pretty sure you meant WSU - for Wichita State. WKU is for the Hilltoppers of Western Kentucky, who lost in the first round to Kansas.

I suppose Washington State feels they have an equal claim to WSU, but that is a different topic.

Clearly, it was not a Bad loss at all. Don't know how much, if any, it helps our RPI. It is moot point anymore, anyway, since we all know we deserved to be in the NCAA. It feels good to be able to "Prove" our point, though, doesn't it?

As a central Kansas resident, there's another lesson here for Hawk Fans when it comes to Wichita State. Think about this for a moment....
When I moved here, I was right at home wearing Hawkeye shirts to WSU games. There were more Hawkeye shirts there than Shock shirts some nights. They were bad.
Then they started a renovation project of the stadium (hmmmm ....)
They hired a decent coach (I think Fran is decent. But the jury is still totally out).
They got better within their conference.
It's the past three to four years I think are really important to think about for Hawk Fans.
In 2010, after several post-seasons at sitting at home, they went NIT and lost in round one.
In 2011, they won the NIT.
In 2012, they bounced in the second round of the NCAA
In 2013, elite eight with final result to come.

When I watch them now, I think about the similarities between UI and Shock hoops. Storied past. Brighter and brighter futures. This NIT run Iowa is making will pay off big. And playing the Shocks is a darn good thing to do.

Good stuff chadfrey, I cannot help but wonder how long the Shockers will be able to hang on to Gregg Marshall. They also have one heck of an Associate Head Coach in Chris Jans, who is from Iowa and turned around the Kirkwood basketball program.

This is good info. I have a serious question. How many transfers do they have? Their guard that's playing so well and dominated our guards is a transfer if I remember correctly. Is this a normal (think ISU) approach for WSU or something which happens on occasion? I have it in my head there are other transfers playing key minutes this year. I'm just asking to know if we're comparing apples to apples... Thanks!

Ohio State is a bad matchup for WSU...IMO. I want Ohio State to represent the Big Ten and advance so this is a good thing from my perspective.

Well said.. Man I hope to be on the track.

Since someone asked .... here's a list of transfers and jucos the Shocks have at this time:

Shocks have one Div I transfer playing this season — Malcom Armstead transferred from Oregon

However, they also have five juco kids on the roster. Having the JUCO National Tournament about 35 minutes away in Hutchinson, Kan. has its perks. However, that perk wasn't a recipe for success in Wichita until they renovated Koch and hired a decent coach. Mark Turgeon started things moving the right direction about a decade ago. Marshall has done a dang fine job in his tenure.

Carl Hall was a JUCO All American.
Cleanthony Early was a two-time JUCO Player of the Year
Chadrick Litte was a juco player
Ehimen Orukpe was a juco player
Nick Wiggins was a juco player

Kadeem Colbey is sitting out this year after transferring from Louisianna-Lafayette

marshall is legit

for whatever you can glean about a guy during his clinic, I was more impressed by marshall than by dave odom or oliver purnell, who had a nice run at clemson until he went to depaul (why?).

he's got top100 pg fred van vleet coming next year, and it wouldn't surprise me if he was able to get 1 top 150 kid a year there -- which would be impressive for a MVC school.

I don't want him in the big ten unless it's at iowa

continuing with my marshall man love

after watching his teams at winthrop for 10 years, incredible to see him make the final four.

legit
