that we don't have to pay to learn on the job?
Bawinkel shouldn't have been in the mother F'in game! When Cole fouled out at the 2:37 mark we were up by 3 points, Lick decides to leave Brommer and Cougill on the bench for whatever reason known to man. I turned to my wife and asked her when we are going to stop paying coaches to learn on the job. This WAS the critical mistake that cost us the game in my opinion. Dude DOES NOT know down and distance. What reason would you bring Bawinkel in? Please give me one good reason when your center fouls out of the game, you go to the slowest player who probably can't even spell the word defense or rebounding and ask him to come in.
I know what Lick's thinking: He's thinking that we are up by 3 and Michigan is going to start fouling....WTF? Dude, we are up by 3 with over 2 minutes to go in the game. Teams don't resort to fouling until the 1:30 +/- mark and even then aren't going to foul if only down by 3. HUGE, HUGE mistake but that wasn't the only mistake he made.
Next: Once Bawinkel gets owned twice by Sims, Lick FOR WHATEVER REASON brings Brommer off the bench and substitutes for Bawinkel. FYI - we were still up even though Bawinkel tried his hardest to give the game to them. We're up 2 after Sims makes his And1 and there is :15 left on the clock. What do you think Michigan is going to do? Per Lick they are going to try and guard the perimeter or at the very least not try and foul the inbounds play.....BUT they did, just like 99% of the teams out there would do. Instead of having a Sr on the floor who has actually played 3 times as many minutes this year as Brommer, he chooses Brommer. The kid that bricked free throws last year, completely lost confidence and went in to a shell....so let's go ahead and put him back in that situation right?!?!
Next: Up 3 with :13 to play. Do you foul before they can get off a 3 point shot? This is debatable and I wouldn't foul but did you see the discussion between Lick and the asst discussing this? They took almost the entire TO to decide if they were going to foul instead of setting up a defensive plan. Have you never been in this situation before Lick? Do you not know what you are going to do?
Next: You call a timeout with :13 to go in OT down by 3. What would be the first thing you said to your players? Mine would be; there isn't enough time for a 2 point shot, but we've got plenty of time to try and get an open look from 3. Stay calm, run our offense and lets get it done. Instead, you have a kid that takes the ball to the rack and gets blocked by the rim.
My only request for our next coach is that we either get a coach that we know is learning on the job and we pay him accordingly, pocket the extra coin and build the facilities necessary to win OR we actually hire a coach that knows how to recruit and coach because this one can't do either one very good.
