With NS, this team is easily 4-0 and top 10

With a legit chance at the CFB playoffs with remaining schedule. Just the facts of life.

Petras is one of bottom 2 or 3 qbs in BIG. Easily. If the game is close, or the opponent MAKES the qb beat them, we are in trouble. Will prolly cost us at least a few more games coming up. Would love to see Padilla get a series or two that isn’t just garbage time handing the ball off

Come on, folks. An experienced QB like NS, who set a plethora of records and has a shot at the NFL is better by far than a new QB in his first 4 games in the BT. Statement of the obvious. I find it interesting that some of the criticism of Petras sounds really familiar. NS early on? By some posters views, NS was deeply flawed. I too have been pretty frustrated by the performances of Petras. I have also seen some bright spots. Jury is out.

Agree with this. I’ve posted elsewhere that we need better and more consistent QB play. We do. But Petras is 4 games in. He’s got the tools. There have been really good parts of games, and really bad parts. I’ll bitch about the bad stuff as much as anyone. But the jury is indeed out.

Penn St will be a major test as James Franklin is going to absolutely load the box and make Petras beat them. He hasn't shown the ability to be that difference maker so far. With 4 games in and all that practice some things should be getting better. He doesn't seem to be comfortable going through his reads at all he locks on then panic ensues followed by a no looker somewhere. We can clearly beat up on the mediocre to bad Big 10 teams those above the .500 mark we are completely lost for entire halves.

Iowa deserves the 2-2 record they have accomplished. They did not play well enough to win the first 2 games. Yeah, this team should be better than Purdue and Northwestern, maybe some day they can have a season where they don't lose a game they are supposed to win. Last year they had a season like that, the previous one was 2015.

Wow all of a sudden the total love for Nate Stanley.

I always liked Nate, thought his first road game at ISU was a monster for the win, showed his moxie. Not a great qb but way above avg.

Don’t look now, but Penn St. won‘t be a .500 team next week. And they’re down 24-3 to Nebraska at this point, so they may be 0-4.

That said, I think you’re right. That’s essentially what everyone does to us.

This could have easily happened if the NCAA would have implemented the new redshirt rules 1 year earlier. Nate Stanley never redshirted and became the backup QB his true freshman year. But his amount of playing time his freshman year didn't amount to squat and he certainly never played in more than 4 games. He easily would have been granted a redshirt year under the new rules.

If the new rules were in place then, this year would be Nate's redshirt Senior year.

I wasnt a fan of Stanleys. Hated his lack of accuracy. Petras seems like he may the same. So 3 years of game management ahead.
Thank goodness we have Goodson and some real good TEs.

And with CJ Beathard, Ricky Stanzi, Drew Tate, Brad Banks, Chuck Long, Kenny Ploen, and Emlen Tunnell.

If we are in fantasyland, why stop with Stanley.
This WASNT an endorsement of Stanley. He was average at best. So let’s amend the original post to WE WOULD BE 4-0 w an AVERAGE BIG QB

I'm sure Nate was more than average in the San Diego Bowl game. The few mop up seconds early in his career really wasted his chance to Make Iowa Great Again.

And he would've broken Chuck Long's records, which were once thought to be untouchable. He was 2200 yards and 6 TDs from Chuck.

Actually we have 3 of the best WR talents we've had there ever I wish we would put them in a position to strike more often. There's no way anyone in the Big Ten has 3 or 4 super talented DBs that can cover all those guys and talent at TE.

True. But Im concerned about accuracy. Figured TEs were more capable of catching those fast balls at 10 yards.
