With Fuller gone, what about Trenity Burdine?

Trenity Burdine is one of the other Siena recruits along with Basabe. Apparatenly Burdine is close friends of Marble Jr. and not too long ago it was posted that Marble Jr. was trying to talk Burdine into coming along with him to Iowa. Well lets hope with the recent developments that this is true.

It will be hard to find quality players to fit your system this late in the game, but I can defiantely see this playing out.

Lets look at how the class might look next year with the openings:

Ben Burst SG/Espn Grade:90
Roy Marble Jr. SG/89
Zach McCabe SF/87
Melsahn Basabe PF/89
Trenity Burdine SF/87
JUCO PG or if were extremly lucky, Chasson Randle(shot in the dark here)

Has anyone heard anymore about Randle? With the openings the Hawks should be pressing hard for this guy.

I also feel the departures aren't done yet. I strongly feel that Brommer will be leaving as well. There were rumblings about Brommer leaving long before we found out that Fuller was unhappy. Fuller and Brommer were supposedly very close. If Brommer leaves I see Iowa going the Juco route for another big man. Probably a versatile PF.

Any thoughts?

If you are talking about getting an early commit from Randle for 2011, that would make sense. But I think we better not count on Brust completely.

It might be best to try to bring in the Siena guys and get some JUCO players. But, only if you gut the rest if the program of guys like Brommer, Cougs, Archie, etc. You know, bring in guys with urban recruiting backgrounds and change the entire nature of the team. As it stands right now, I would think it would be a long shot for an athletic blue chipper to think he might fit in with the current squad. But Marble, Trinity, Basabe, and a couple of JUCO's who hail from more urban environs might
change that. You know, stop recruiting the suburbs of Chicago
and start recruiting actual Chicago.

But these guys are the remaining stock of JUCO's are not going to completely turn the program around. So, you need to have enough schollies left to get those types of players for 2011. The JUCOs would then clear, along with Gatens, to let you go after the quality 2012 kids.

However, what if you can't get these kids to come? Will kids from Philly and New York want to come to Iowa? Could it be another Lick situation where good recruits bail from Iowa at the change, but the coach can't get the guys he recruited to his former school to come along? Could we be the program that hires guys whose recruits appear to have actually signed with the school rather than the coach?

That would really suck.

I wouldn't count on any of the Siena recruits coming here. Fran is encouraging them to honor their commitments.

How come we hire the only coaches who "encourage their players to honor their commitments?" Also, how come Basabe was quoted as saying henhad the option to come to Iowa?

I have to call BS on this one. It just is not the prevailing practice. Seems more like a way to save face.

If this is the case, they better come up with a fab four or five class in 2011, or Iowa should be looking for a new AD and basketball coach.

Iowa fans are amazing at times.

You are right, Iowa should just accept that we will lose our best players every year and be at the bottom of the big ten yearly and be happy about it

So you didnt think with a coaching change there might be some attrition? Lickliter lost his own recruits regularly which is unacceptable, this is Fran losing guys who came to Iowa to play for a specific coaching staff....not uncommon.

Saying Iowa should look for a new coach if we don't have a Fab 4 class is hardly the same as saying I am okay with losing our best player every year. Fuller was already leaving, so that is hardly Fran's fault.

This could be one of the most idiotic posts in the history of Hawkeyenation. Congrats!

No, it's the most idiotic post ever, on any site, period. We're coming off the worst 3-year stretch in program history, where we averaged like 13 wins per year. We just made a coaching change, leading to some players and recruits to leave (which is TYPICAL!). And now you think that if said coach can't get a Fab Five-caliber recruiting class after Year 2, then he should be canned? Seriously, stop talking. It's idiots like you that give our fan base a bad rap.

You thought I meant Jalen Rose, CWebb caliber, I didn't mean that extreme. I would settle for Alford's Recker, Evans class the one we were calling the Fab 5 at Iowa. That is what I meant.

However, can someone name me one coach in recent history that was successful and didn't come in and make a big splash as a recruiter?

Seriously. Because I can't come up with one. In FM's situation, it looked like he might be able to just find one or two guys to fill spots. However, now he will have to build an entire team. Which means he needs to recruit at least 4 or 5 guys that are Big Ten caliber starting players. And if we want to be able to compete, they need to be upper-level Big Ten players.

We need a class like Purdue's super class a couple of years ago. Alford's Recker class, etc. You don't need a Cal class, but it probably still needs to be top 20, or Iowa will not be able to get over the hump. That is unless they get radically lucky and find a Stephen Curry type.

Seriously guys, it is too hard to compete at this level without top recruiting. And guys don't turn into top recruiters from being so, so recruiters. It just doesn't happen in this day and age.

But hey, let's put something on the line. I say if FM does not put together a top 25 class of 2010, and 2011 players then he will eventually be fired withou having challenged for a conference championship. I will stake my participation on this board on this argument.

How many of you are willing to stake your participation on the opposite occuring? Sign up and I will print the thread for future reference and we will see who is wrong.
