With all these recruits committing

Does Iowa pull back on scholarships offered or because these are non-binding commitments, do they keep the others still out there as back ups?

Keep them until LOIs are signed. Kids probably have a good idea if they're the primary or the backup recruit, and they'll keep their recruitment open accordingly.

I guess it depends on what the player was told. I was always under the impression if Iowa offers a scholarship and the player verbally commits, Iowa will honor that offer.

Now if a player is told that Iowa is offering 1 scholarship to 3 different players, and whoever commits first gets the scholarship, that's different.

Also if the player is promised only a grey shirt, that's basicly a promise he will get a scholarship when 1 opens up later.

Players that are preferred walk-ons obviously are promised nothing except a chance to compete for playing time and maybe a chance to earn a scholarship.

I think they obviously honer the verbal.
That's why they don't like wishy washy stuff from commits.
We are looking at around what 7-9 more?
Obviously they are working on a pool of players to fill those spots, but the pool is getting smaller. Don't get me wrong, if another TW or AE wants to commit, they won't say no, but they will have to make that up somewhere else.
