Wisconsin to have Borland kick FG

Their current FG kicker sucks and is being replaced. Borland will handle FG of 45 yrds and longer.

Kyle French to forgo senior season at UW - JSOnline

Madison - Wisconsin kicker Kyle French, a redshirt junior, will not return to UW for his senior season in 2014.

French, a graduate of Menomonee Falls High School, updated his Facebook page Thursday night.

“I want to personally thank everyone who has supported me throughout my career in football,” he wrote. “The coaches have asked me to forgo my senior season and focus on my career outside of football after this season.

"It has been a great ride, a time I’ll never forget and I’m excited for what is to come.”

French’s posting came hours after UW coach Gary Andersen told reporters Jack Russell would handle field goals and extra points this week at Illinois and that linebacker Chris Borland would be ready for kicks of 45 yards or longer.

French opened the season as UW’s No. 1 kicker. He has made 5 of 8 field-goal attempts this season and is 18 of 29 overall at UW.

Borland is a one man wrecking machine. Why does this not surprise me? I hate Wisconsin with a passion, but I have no problem admitting Borland is by far my favorite player to watch on the defensive side of the ball this year. That includes all of college football. He just makes plays all over the field.

Iget a kick out of wisky fans barking about marquette cutting players when their football coach did it midseason to a kicker.

This is pretty much an SEC move by releasing this kid in the middle of the season. Borland is a true ''quick-twitch'' muscle guy so it makes sense that he has a quick, strong leg.

Poor kid. 5-8 isn't terrible. Total dick move, aka SEC move, by the coaching staff to let him go. At least wait until the end of the season and just don't let him kick.
