Wisconsin DE Jake Karchinski Commits to Iowa on Visit

Watching his highlights it is easy to see how someone could have come away unimpressed from watching him. The kid has the size no doubt but he seemed to lack agility and definitely needs to learn how to tackle and hit with some authority. I saw a lot of smaller kids dragging and running through his arm tackles. He would get them down because he is bigger and stronger at the high school level, but that won't work at Iowa. This kid should be the 2 to 3 year project type, but if he has the work ethic he definitely has the body. I'm sure we will make a good contributor out of him. Maybe could even pork him up some and give him a look at Guard.

In the NFL DE's are getting smaller. Yeah he needs to add 20 pounds, because 245 is pretty small.
But they are actually making less tackles and passes defended and more sacks.
When a 270 plus pound end used to be the norm, it's now the exception.
But definitely being able to move have balance and fluidity is vital to the position.
