Wirfs graded out quite well by Pro Football Focus this past week. Sorry to post a positive. Please don't ban me.

Jewell is going to be interesting to follow. His speed is going to be tough for him to overcome. But he has such a nose for the ball and he is fearless.

I like our Tackles. But they were projects obviously. But at least FKF wasnt afraid to play some freshmen this year. maybe we can thank BF for that?

2 potential NFL bookend tackles and I believe Daniels is coming back, that o-line should be salty next year. Let's hope a healthy o-line can overcome the playcalling or better yet the playcalling adapts.

Not to bag on Wirfs, but I'm a little surprised he graded out so high. From what I saw, he had a rough game. Could have been the lack of communication regarding pass protection tho.

"Speed" is such a misnomer. Jewell gets to the ball as fast as anyone Iowa has ever had on its roster.

Exactly. I couldn't find the quote, but I was reading about a week ago an NFL midseason all-rookie team that was asking how Desmond King could have possibly dropped that far in the draft. The answer is that they look too much at how he tested out in shorts than how he played in pads. Same could be true of Jewell.

True. But I watched him chasing Barkley from behind all day. There are a lot of guys in the NFL with that speed.
But I also know our coaches cant gameplan themselves out of a wet paper bag and an NFL DC will be better at utilizing his talents.

But as someone once said "Speed kills"

while this can be true and there definitely is football speed. but at LB, a backer needs to have that real speed as they are responsible for getting there first, getting wide, guarding wr/te and getting home on the blitz. being late in any category isn't acceptable. another constraint in JJ's game at the next level is that he doesn't have the hip fluidity/change of direction needed to play in space in the NFL against the speed burners there. but i still think he has a chance in the right system.

Just watching him with the naked eye, he has such good instincts, he plays a lot faster than he's clocked. I think a team will be able to use him in certain capacities where he'll be able to succeed. He's good at reading in zone coverage, but you're right, he would be a mismatch against TE's in man-to-man. I agree with what you say, he'll succeed in the right system.

We don't want to be negative... it's just so darn hard not to be because we expect more from a coach who has been on the job long enough that we should just be able to reload

Wirfs despite all of the false starts is doing well and I think every Hawk fan would agree with that. He is experiencing big ten football for the first time and in a quick 3 more more years we will be wondering where in the draft he is going to go.

Wirfs... good job!
Go Hawks

Josey reminds me a lot of Sean Lee from the Dallas Cowboys. Not the fastest dude but a freakin ball hawk and he can hit.

Lets hope they can execute.

Wirfs will continue to improve, but I wish James Daniels would get back to being good again. I don't know what's been up with him the past few games. He's had some flat out bad snaps/snapping the ball when Stanley clearly wasn't ready.
