Willie Lowe gone?

I don't know about signs, it just seems that younger players have come in and passed him and his classmate Castillo is the one who is most likely to get his reserve or multiple back reps. Just don't see much future playing time for him. Seems like he could go to another program and play more and not have to put in the intense work necessary for an Iowa player. It's a grind few of us could endure.

Just a guess, but with rumors about Donovin Johnson academic issues, I have to wonder if he and Lowe are not sitting out to focus on academics. Just speculation on my part but it wouldnt be unusual for that to happen.

Isn't he a senior? Would be sort of hard to transfer at this point.

I've been wondering why I haven't seen him being mentioned at all. He's listed on the roster as a senior, but i think he's playing as a junior, but not 100% sure on that. Anyone know for sure?

Lowe did not redshirt so he will be in his fourth and senior year. He has played mostly on special teams. Would be nice to have him available as he is one of faster players on team.

His judgement hasn't been too good when he's gotten on the field. I'm pretty sure he has the biggest "penalties-to-plays" ratio of anyone on the roster. At least 2 late-hit, interference or "extracurricular" penalities that I can recall...and a couple that were close. (refs stepped in)

One you might remember was against Penn St 2 years ago (I believe). We'd just taken the lead and he hits the guy out of bounds on the ensuing kickoff...immediately moving Penn St to the 50. (fortunately they fumbled on the next play and we recovered).

I've also seen coaches having rather "direct" conversations with him on the sidelines a couple times. I'm sure he's a good kid...but he's been mistake-prone on the field.

Willie Guy, Jr.?

One big difference with Willie Guy. Guy was one of the top rated recruits in the nation, while Willie Lowe was an under-the-radar player (probably a 2 star), so our expectations and disappointment of Lowe not panning out are much less than they were 20 years ago for Willie Guy.

Willie Guy #1 rated recruit nationally. Willie Lowe - a Glenville guy who didn't get an offer from OSU, and following in the ranks of other Glenville guys leaving early.

He could go FCS and play immediately for 2 more years. He could go FBS, sit a year and then play 2 more.

So actually, if he were going to transfer this would be a good time. If the Rhabdo case proved anything it is that playing football for Iowa is really, really hard work. Completely silly to do it if you don't absolutely love it.

Not really a shock. Both Castillo and Lowery are ahead of him.

Furthermore, I'd be looking for BOTH Campbell and Lomax to put themselves in a position to see early playing time as TR FR. They'll be able to contribute on special team and also see positional action in clean-up duty ... or in particular personnel-packages.

I'm liking how we're looking more and more at safety. Hyde, Bernstine, Miller, Sleeper, and Law will likely give us the freedom to have some nice versatility when it comes to fielding extra-DB packages.
