Williams needs to work on getting past his man

If Williams can work this summer on moves and the ability to get his stride and shoulder past his defender he could maybe move into the staring point guard spot and get Bohannon over to shooting guard. Williams spends too much time dribbling sideways and needs to set up his man to get his body past the defender. The hawks had trouble with guard play when the opposing guards could penetrate and dish as in yesterday's game, Illinois, and some other games.

The hawks need a penetrating pt guard who can do it at will to set up Cook, Pemsl, etc. And Bohannon, Moss, Baer, and Ellingson can reap wide open jumpers with penetration. This is the key.

Moss has shown some ability to catch on the wing and penetrate which can also help breakdown a defense. Will Moss take that next step and get a 40%+ 3 pt shot.

I guess I am the lone ranger on this one. The way the game is played now it is about ball movement and spacing. I am fine with JB at the point he can get into the lane and kick when he has to and that's all I need to see on the offensive end.

I think Williams does an ok job of this already. His jump shot stinks.

JoBo will do, but a true PG would push this team into the stratosphere.

Nope, I'm with you. Bohannon is the exact point guard this team needs. On offense anyway. Get a rim protector to cover his defensive ability and all is good.

We know that JBO has a ways to go on defense. I cannot help but think that as he matures, physically and mentally, his defense will improve significantly. He may never be a real stopper, but he will be solid. I also think at times when he gets the heat for his D, the interior defense might share the blame. They, too, will get much better with age and experience.

There are just too many sources, let alone stats, that support JBO as an outstanding point guard and likely one who will gain BT honors and Iowa records. At this point, I think its just plain silly to say we don't have a very fine point guard. I also think Williams will get his shot to start working. Remember, he was a pretty big scorer in high school. His style differs from JBO and he is pretty darn good on D. We need two point guards and these are the guys. I would see young McCaffrey redshirting next year, unless injuries require his presence.

Moss and Ellingson will fill the shooting guard spot, and there will be times when JBO and Williams are both on the floor.
