Williamburg OL - Blythe

Hayden used to love getting those linemen that were stud wrestlers......Sindlinger, Keopple.

I've heard through the grapevine that he will be leaning towards wrestling. I've also heard his family is EXTREMELY wealthy and the amount of money he could make in the NFL is irrelevent. I have no idea on the truth of either of the statements though.

Depends, if he thinks he's an NFL player, then where does the money trail lead?

Since 2.4% of college players go to the NFL I'm pretty sure his decision will be more about what sport he's best at, or what sport he likes best as opposed to there the money trail leads.

Why bring up how much money his family has? What point does that make. They are great people. Very down to earth and very grounded. I am rooting for him to become a Hawk because I think these are the types of kids that we want representing the U of I. Money has nothing to do with that. He would excel at wrestling OR football.

He would excel at wrestling OR football.

I kind of wonder if he would consider doing both. It has been since John Ostendorp and Jordan McLaughlin (for one great match) that we had a guy play both football and wrestling. I have only seen Blyth wrestle at the State tournament and he is extremely impressive on the mat. The kid won the State championship as a freshman heavyweight. That is unheard of!

Didn't Iowa already sign the top heavyweight wrestling recruit in the country?

I know Blythe is very good, however he may be an underdog to see the mat at Iowa.

I'm not positive, but I doubt there is any family in Iowa County who is wealthy to the point that NFL money would be irrelevant. I'm not sure that NFL money would be irrelevant to ANY family, including the family of William Gates.

They are good/great people and his family is well off.....Blythe is the grandson of the Holdens....as in the Holdens name you see on the University Hospitals and other various places...they have plenty of money so money wont be an issue no matter what he does/sport he picks and as Jon says I think it would be an upset if he went anywhere except Iowa.

I never said they weren't down to earth grounded people. I was just simply responding to the poster that thought he would choose which sport he wanted to play based on earning potential. I have no doubt that he'll be a great student athlete and represent Iowa well if he so chooses to.

You'd be wrong. Unless you can name me an NFL athlete worth about 60 billion dollars as Gates is. As far as Blythe's family, if he's related to the distinguished Holden's, they donated 25 million to Universities cancer research center in 2000. I doubt any NFL past or present players could or would be willing to do such a thing.

Millions of Dollars is never an irrelevant sum of money. It might not be as much to certain people, but it isn't like there is anyone who wouldn't stop to pick it up.
