Will RB Melvin Gordon be the first 2011 Commit?

A lot of speculation around the web on this...he is a RB from Wisconsin. He is very high on Iowa, has established great rapport with the coaches...Iowa and Wisconsin have both offered.

Dang! I thought you were confirming that he did commit. :)

He was suppose to be there today, although nobody has confirmed.

And like you said, a lot of speculation on him possibly being our first commit.

seen a lot of chatter on too many websites to at least not shine a bit of spotlight his way

And its just amazing the number of videos you can easily find on youtube...the days of Rivals and Scout having the monopoly on this are in the past. You can probably find vids on 75% of the top players in the nation, as parents and coaches are becoming more involved in this area

he's taller and lighter than a lot of other backs that Iowa has offered. could he be coming into play DB?

No, Iowa offered him at RB. A couple of other schools (Wisconsin included) offered him at DB. Iowa is his clear cut favorite because the coaches have made it apparent they plan to use him at RB.

His nick name has to be 'Flash'...he is very fast and cuts on a dime. Then add in his ability to out run everyone else, heck yes, offer him at running back. Mr. Gordon, I want to see you in a Hawk's uni!

I know that is selected highlights, but reminds me of watching Tavian when he was at Bettendorf, just running faster than everyone else.

How many RBs are we taking in this class? Could it hurt chances with Coe, Poteat, Hayes (not sure if we have a chance at all with these guys, but I'd like to think so). Could Coe be a LB in the making?

I think we take the first 2 to commit.

Remound Wright
Justice Hayes
Cam McDaniel (although I think he ends up at DB or WR)
Rodney Coe
Melvin Gordon

I would like to see melvin take on more contact. He seems to runaway from everybody, if he doesnt learn to take more contact the big ten will eat him alive.

He is an athlete and I hope he comes to Iowa with the drive to be a Rb but if they think he cannot stay low enough or be tough enough inside this kid would make a great Wr.

BTW, very impressive video, almost reminds me more of a WR.

No Doubt! He is really smooth, catches the ball with his hands, and gets great YAC.

In High School you want to get the ball in your best players' hands ASAP. Accordingly, a lot of receivers end up getting handed the ball. However, they find that they are much better in space at the next level.
