Will Olympic wrestling lose out to 3-on-3 basketball? BMX?

Here's a link to a story about possible additions to Olympic sports, and additional events in existing sports (do we really need more swimming distances?). Interesting comments at the end of the article (I've pasted the comments below) regarding gender equity being a consideration for wrestling - first I've read about that - is the IOC concerned that there isn't women's Greco?!

Olympics mulling addition of 3-on-3 basketball, BMX - ESPN

Gender equity is an IOC aim and, after mixed-team formats impressed the IOC in Singapore, archery and triathlon hope to add them in Rio.

Dubi is also awaiting reports from wrestling body, which has an emergency meeting in Moscow next month. Wrestling's gender issues played a part in the IOC board's recommendation to drop both Greco-Roman and freestyle disciplines from the 2020 program.

"Yes, that was always a controversy that they didn't have women for Greco," acknowledged Dubi, with seven men's events and none for women in London. "I will be interested to see what they will propose for Rio."

No. BMX or 3-on-3 basketball would be new disciplines within already existent sports, biking and basketball. Wrestling as a sport is on the chopping block and is up against other sports, not disciplines within other sports.

I like basketball. I like pick up 3 on 3 basketball. It's a lot of fun but there is no way that it should be a thing that people do at the olympics unless it's just some players passing the time with some buddies. And even then, it's the Olympics, it's time for ample sex with strangers. Not 3 on 3 basketball.

The title for this thread was meant to be facetious/rhetorical - apparently you took it literally.
